Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
by Alison
Jen woke up at about 10 am, she had a class at 11 that day. Looking around
she saw that Abby had already left for her 9 am class and that Joey was
sleeping peacefully. She loved college life. Jen, Abby and Joey all
shared an apartment at The University of Boston. Joey was a political
science major, abby a fashion design major and Jen an art history major.
Dawson and Pacey lived across campus and they were all still the best of
friends. Jen looked at her calendar and saw that tonight was Abby's
birthday, a secret she had desperately been trying to keep. Jen had other
ideas. She picked up the phone and dialed the Purple Star, the best dance
club around.
"Hello?" a voice answered.
"Hey Shelly. It's Jen. One of my friends birthday tonight and I want to
throw her a surprise party. Think you can help me out?"
"Well, tonight Fuel and Athenaeum are gonna be here, but I think I can get
you the room upstairs for a few hours."
"Really? Fuel and Athenaeum are playing? Perfect!!! Thanks Shelly, you are
the best. I owe you."
Jen hung up the phone, called a caterer and then ran to her computer. She
printed up a flier advertising the party, entrance by invitation only, and
ran to Kinko's on her way to class. After class she found Joey and they
went to distribute the fliers. Since Dawson and Abby had recently broken
up and it was still a sore subject, the girls decided to just have a girls
night out. By 5 pm, all the plans had been set. Everyone knew about the
party, everyone except Abby. Jen put on a black skirt, a hot pink shirt
and a black leather jacket over it. She put sandals on her feet, a swipe
of mascara and lipstick and she was ready. Joey walked out of her room
wearing a short red dress that was sure to attract attention. She wore her
hair up and had heels on her feet making her stand close to six feet tall.
Abby walked out of her room dressed in plaid pajamas.
"Abby!!! Didn't you get my note? We are going to a party at the Purple Star
for some girls birthday tonight. You have to come!" Jen said exasperated.
"Why should I celebrate the birthday of someone I don't even know?"
"You do know her, she was in your fashion history class last semester."
Joey lied.
"Fine, I'll go. But it doesn't mean I have to enjoy it."
She walked out 15 minutes later wearing a black dress and a little bit of
makeup. They climbed into Joey's car and headed for the club. When they
got there, the place seemed almost empty.
"Great Jen, we are coming to a party that no one shows up for. How lame are
we?" Abby commented.
All of a sudden the lights went out. When they came back on the room was
filled and everyone shouted "SURPRISE!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY ABBY!!"
Abby stared at them in shock. She had been set up. Abby Morgan, queen of
cons, had been set up. She realized that all of these people were her
friends and felt an enormous amount of love encompass her. She quickly
hugged Jen and Joey and began to work her way around the room accepting
hugs and happy birthday wishes from everyone. After a few minutes,
Athenaeum took the stage and played "What I Didn't Know" and "Flat Tire".
Then Fuel joined them onstage and the two lead singers did an acoustic
version of "Happy Birthday Baby" for Abby. Tears formed in her eyes and at
the end they invited her onstage. She hugged both of them and stepped up to
the microphone. Not usually being shy, she found herself speechless.
Eventually the words came to her.
"Wow. Thank you. Everyone. I never realized how many people I can call my
friends, it really means a lot that you all are here. And, I especially
want to thank Fuel and Athenaeum. I know they are here for a concert and
not just to celebrate my birthday, but it still means a hell of a lot. And
most, I have to thank my two best friends. Thank you Joey and Jen, you guys
are the best friends in the world! And, having said all that....Let's
party!!!!" she jumped offstage and began dancing with a guy she knew. She had the
best night of her life. Jen and Joey were having fun as well, being single
sure had it's perks. They flirted incessantly with every guy in the place,
loving the attention they were receiving. At the end of the night, the
girls went home and had an old fashioned sleepover in the middle of their
apartment. They watched Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt movies, ate
popcorn, had pillow fights, talked about guys, and reminisced to their
adolescent days back in Capeside. Then, they fell asleep, totally content
with life.
The End!
