Summer Lovin' by Emily

Rating: PG-13

(for the sake of this story, let's just say that Breaking Away never ever happened. BUT Dawson is in love with Joey and Joey with Dawson and they STill have not told each other. It is the summer after the first season and Jen is in New York, and Pacey is off with his family somewhere on vacation.)

Dawson and Joey were walking to the Icehouse, it was about four o'clock in the afternoon. Joey was working at the restaurant, and Dawson was working at the Capeside Community Pool not too far from there. It was a humid day and Joey was fanning herself with her hand.
"So are you gonna come over for movie night?"Dawson asked as they stopped in front of the entrance.
Joey looked at him thoughtfully, squinting her eyes to avoid the sun. "Yah, sure."
"Great, when do you get off?"
"10:00....What about you?"
"I have to lock up and stuff, I don't get off till 10:30."
Joey nodded, "I'll meet you at the pool after I get off, and we'll go from there, kay?" Joey started to open the door, waiting momentarily for a response.
"Sure, later Jo."

Joey walked through the gate entrance and looked at the empty pool. It was perfectly still. Dawson walked out of the back room with the chemicals for the pool. He stopped in his tracks when he saw Joey staring at the pool. He noticed how beautiful she looked. Ever since the Beauty Pageant he couldn't help but see how gorgeous she always was. He shook himself from his daydream and started to walk to the table where all of his stuff was.
"Hey Jo." Joey turned around from the pool and smiled. "I'm almost done here. I just need to put the chlorine in, and then we can go."
Joey smiled mischieviously, "How much trouble would you get in if we swam right now?"
Dawson looked at her strangely, "I dunno."
"Well can we? Only for a little while? It's just soooooo hot, and we've been working all day....can we?" She looked at him pleadingly.
"Oh....OK..."
Joey's face broke out into a huge grin as she started taking off her clothes (she had a bikini on). She looked over at Dawson who was taking off his shirt. His once pale skin was a crisp brown, and Joey couldn't help but gape. He had dyed his hair brown and gotten it cut short right before school let out, and Joey had to admit that the look was right for him. His red lifegaurd shorts finished the look, reminding her of the cast of Baywatch.
She cimbed on the diving board and dove in, Dawson soon folowed her lead, but did a cannonball in instead.
SPLASH!!!!
"Geez, Dawson." Joey laughed as she wiped her face. She flicked her hand sending a small amount of water in Dawson's face. She burst out laughing.
"Ha ha ha!" Dawson fought back and soon they were engaged in a huge all out water fight.
Joey held up her hands in front of her, "Time out Dawson, my hair is all over my face." Dawson took pause as Joey started running her fingers through her hair. Dawson was but five inches away from her, and he felt this urge to kiss her. Joey looked up from her hair, and noticed Dawson staring at her.
"What?" Joey waited for an answer and received none, just an awe-struck look on his face. She smiled, "Time in." She splashed Dawson in the face again, and soon the water fight was back on.
About thirty minutes later Joey and Dawson decided that they should get out and head home. Joey headed up the pool stairs, but stopped abruptly to look at the sky. Dawson, who was right behind her, followed her gaze. The moon was full, and the stars twinkled in the dark night. They must have stood there for ten minutes just looking at the stars, forgeting their plans to go home.
"You know, my boss told me, that this used to be an Indian Campground." Dawson said slowly , "And the pool was built on the very spot that an Indian legend took place. Two young lovers from enemy tribes fell in love, and when the village elders found out, they put both of them to death, on the place where this very pool was built. And legend has it that if two TRUE lovers kiss at this spot, under a full moon, they will always be in love." Dawson was now right behind her, whispering into her ear. "But that only works on the 26 of July." he added softly.
Joey whispered, "Dawson today is the 26th." Dawson turned her around and kissed her passionately, letting her arms wrap around his neck. Dawson felt himself begin to lose balance so he wrapped his arms tightly around her waist, which only made them both fall backwards into the pool. They surfaced and pulled away from their kiss. Dawson smiled.
"I've been wanting to do that ever since the Windjammer Pangeant." he smiled.
She rolled her eyes and kissed him again. His hand snaked around to the back of her head, and he ran his fingers through her soft, wet hair. She pulled away.
"So does this mean we are going to love each other forever?" Joey asked.
Dawson smiled,"Well it's only for TRUE love, but I think we have a pretty good chance."

THE END!!!
