AOHell by Isa

Dawson turned on his computer & sighed. It was four am, & he still hadn't cracked even the Cliff Notes for A Tale Of Two Cities. "I'm dead," he said as he opened AOL & signed on. He waited as the horrible sign-on noise filled the room, then he went to yahoo.com. After alot of searching, he managed to find a couple of outlines for the book. He read them & opened his word processor program to begin his draft. After taking around half of what he found on the Net & turning it around for his own report, the power went out.

"Oh, God, not now," he said, throwing himself onto the bed in the darkness. The onlee light in his room was that of his glow-in-the-dark ET doll. Even the street lights outside were out, making the entire creek nearly invisable.

"What am I gonna do?" he asked himself. He checked his watch. 5:51 am.

"Wonderful," he muttered. Then a thought hit him. Maybe all of Capeside had been plagued by the blackout. "I can call Pacey." he picked up his phone, thankful it wasn't a cordless, and dialed Pacey's private number.

Still asleep, Pacey rolled over & yawned. "Who the hell....." he picked it up. "What?"

"Pacey, you're awake!"

"Thanks to you. Why the hell are you calling me @....my clock is broken."

"Apparantly it's all over, thank God."

"What?"

"The blackout."

"There's a blackout?"

"Can you see anything in your room?"

"I don't have any windows that aren't painted black."

"Oh, well, I was working on my report on A Tale Of Two Cities--"

"We've had three weeks to do those reports."

"Is yours done?"

"Hell, no."

"So anyway, I had it like, finished, all there in front of my on my computer, & bam, the power goes out."

"Well, if your power is out, & my power is out, the school's power is out. You're fine."

"I'd like to think so." The power popped back on. Dawson flopped back on his pillow. "I'm dead."

"You could copy mine. I did a report on that for Tamara last year."

"Email it to me."

"I was just kidding Dawson."

"I know, but I can re-write it, you know? Sort of make it mine?"

"Whatever," Pacey said & hung up so he could sign on.

Ten minutes later, Dawson was reworking the report.

"Pacey should have warned me that he can't spell for shit." Dawson muttered. He checked the clock again. It was nearly six am. He had to be to school by eight. This gave him an hour & a half to finish & get a shower.

By the time he'd finished it, it was ten to eight. He'd never been late before, but there's a first time for everything. He clicked the "print" button and went to take a quick shower before he left.

When he returned to his room, his wet hair dripping everywhere, he noticed that the computer had locked and onlee the first three pages of his report were there. The screen was black.

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

"Dawson," his mother came in, still wearing her bathrobe. "What are you screaming about? Why haven't you left yet?"

"I was doing this report, & we lost power momentarily & I lost it, & then I was printing it & I'm screwed."

"Did it stay in the recycling bin?" she asked.

He went over & typed & typed. "Nope."

"You could turn in what you have & see what the teacher does,"

"I already know what she'll do, flunk me."

"You'll work it out," she walked out of the room & Joey yelled as she climbed up the latter.

"Hey Dawson!" she came in & tossed her backpack on the bed. "Pacey called & told me about your little blackout problem--"

"Yeah, well, the computer went & ate the file the second time & I'm still limited to three pages."

"Then in that case, I brought you something."

"What?"

"An excuse," she laughed. "Alex ran a major fever last night & we were @ the hospital until six. I didn't get two words of my paper written."

"And that helps me how?"

"Just tell Ms. Caller you came with us. She knows we're inseperable, so I'll just tell her that you were @ my house when Bessie realised the baby was sick."

"You're a lifesaver Joey." he hugged her & headed out the door.

She grabbed her bookbag off the bed. "That's what I'm here for."
