Letters From the Heart by Jessica

Joey bounded into her room after a long lecture and immediately went to the computer to check her e-mail. After Dawson had kissed her that fateful night, they had totally admitted their feelings to each other....Joey had not wanted to go to Paris, but Dawson had insisted she not pass up the opportunity and her sister had agreed. After a tearful good-bye Joey had gotten on that plane, three days later. It was so hard to leave him after they had just found each other, but Dawson was convinced that their love would only go stronger. She missed him terribly, the first few weeks were the worst. She threw herself into her school work, excelling, and afterwards, spent hours in her room, writing letters to Dawson. Eventually, she grew to love Paris, she went to cafe’s, made friends, and she stopped feeling so alone. But she never stopped thinking of Dawson, and missing him. And even though she hadn’t really admitted it herself, she was also afraid that Dawson might grow tired of their long distance relationship and move on.

As she turned the computer on, Joey hummed happily to herself. She and her two roommates, Claire and Liz, had pitched in for a for a lap top computer after Joey spent hours telling them stories about Dawson. It had been Claire’s idea to get the computer and Liz agreed, insisting that communicating through e-mail would be much faster than writing letters. Besides, it would give them the opportunity to talk to their family and friends while they were there(although Joey knew it was mainly for her) She had protested at first, feeling guilty for having her roommates pitch in for something that everyone knew that she would be the one using it most of the time. Finally, after much debate, Jo agreed and put in a rather large amount of the money she had earned working at the IceHouse. It had been worth it though. Every night she e-mailed Dawson, and he e-mailed her....it was almost as good as having him there...she still went out, studied...but now Joey had an easier way of talking to Dawson, and it eased some of the loneliness she had.

Jo checked her e-mail patiently, knowing that she would be getting something from Dawson. He sent her little notes throughout the day...one that she would get in the morning to wish her a good day, and one she would get at night to wish her sweet dreams..and sometimes just a note to tell her he loved her and missed her like crazy. She smiled to herself. Hmmm....a message from Pacey saying how Dawson was driving him nuts talking about her 24 hours a day, another from Jen, filling her in on all the Capeside gossip. Finally....Dawson. Jo scrolled down and began reading.

Jo,

I came across this the other day and it totally reminded me of you. I miss you and love you with all my heart...I’m counting the days until you come back to me.

All my love,

Dawson

e.e cummings

somewhere I have never travelled, gladly beyond
any experience, your eyes have their silence
in your most frail gestures are things which enclose me,
or which i cannot touch because they are too near

your slightest look easily will unclose me
though i have closed myself as fingers,
you open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens
(touching skillfully, mysteriously) her first rose

or if your wish be to close me, i and
my life will shut very beautifully, suddenly,
as when the heart of this flower imagines
as the snow carefully everywhere descending;

nothing which we are to perceive in this world equals
the power of your intense fragility:whose texture
compels me with the colour of its countries,
rendering death and forever with each breathing

(i do not know what is ir about you that closes
and open; only something in me understands
the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses)
nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands

Joey was impressed...the ache for Dawson resurfaced stronger than ever, and it grew with each poem he sent her...one for each week. She had never figured Dawson for the romantic type, but this was making her love him even more, if that was possible. He sent her poetry until she came back to Capeside, where they picked right up where they had left off. They remained a couple for three years, only to be split up again when Joey got a full scholarship to Harvard and Dawson was accepted to UCLA. Dawson was the one who had to pursuade Joey to go and achieve her dreams. It broke his heart to leave his love again...he knew that people grow apart and change when they go to college, and he had to accept they fact that their was a chance they might go their separate ways. Joey was again paralyzed by the fear that she or Dawon would meet someone new.

The first year was almost too much to take for both of them. It wasnt like Paris, where’d known they be together in 3 months...this was more permanent. They both survived by sending each other e-mail everday, Dawson sent her poems daily, rather than weekly...and they lived for Christmas and other breaks. Eventually the months turned into years, and Dawson and Joey’s love was still strong...both of them, of course, had been tempted by others, but they remained faithful to each other with the knowledge they would be together as soon as school was over.

It was June, and Joey had just finished her last final exam. Finally, she would be finished with school, and she and Dawson would be together. She trudged up the stairs into her room to check her e-mail. Scanning it, she sighed wearily. Nothing from Dawson. As she went to sign off, she saw her e-mail box was open. Must have missed this, she thought, reading the email. It was from Dawson and the usual poem followed...Whats this about ? Jo wondered. He knows I’m coming home tomorrow...I thought he was gonna pick me up at the airport, but he didnt mention anything about it. Its just another poem. Oh god, maybe he’s preparing me for something....oh, stop that, joey. she braced herself as she began to read as she had done so many times before.

Before Now By: Sudian

Knowing now why love has never worked out right,
Knowing now why love has evaded and failed us;
Always before, things have been cold.
The sunrise had oft lit up the eyes
Without warming the heart,
The moon had oft glowed on the skin
Without charming the soul.
Everything before has led up to this day,
To this hour, to this moment
Every lesson love taught, every failure,
Every breath, every word, every beat of the heart before now
Has led me to you

Jo,

This is how I feel about you...about us. Before you, my life was meaningless, when I was without you, nothing made sense. You are my world...my heart. I dont think I can ever be without you again. Marry me. Please Jo......

Yours,
Dawson

Joey’s eyes filled up with tears. “You really are a romantic” she whispered , wiping her eyes. “Oh, Dawson....”

“Is that a yes ?” a voice asked. Joey almost fell off her chair. Dawson Leery was standing in the open doorway, holding a single white rose, and grinning madly.

Jo pulled him into the room, her mouth agape. “How....did you...what are you...” she let the question die and flung herself into his arms. “Oh, I dont care. .......I’ve missed you....and yes, yes, yes I’ll marry you...I’ll do anything you want......” she told her childhood friend and love.

He kissed her sweetly and passionately....” this beats e-mail...the computer couldn’t kiss me like this...” He kisses her again, leaving her breathless, crushing her to him....she knew they were squishing the rose, but she didn’t care....she was marrying the love of her life....and Joey Potter was finally coming home.
