Disclaimer: Some people have all the luck. Those people are Kevin Williamson,
Columbia Tristar and the WB. They own Dawson's Creek, the lucky devils.
However, I own Vanessa Ryder, but ya know what? I don't mind if ya use her
(although I doubt you will) If ya do, just put that she belongs to Katy Thomas
and I'll be happy. Oh, and e-mail me telling me you did, because I'd like to
read the story. :)
Pacey's jaw dropped when he saw the mysterious biker girl.
"Helloo," he
said, walking up to her, "The name's Pacey Witter."
Vanessa smiled and shook his hand, "Vanessa Ryder, nice to meet you,
Pacey."
The others immediately picked up on the attraction between Pacey and
Vanessa. Joey, Jen, and Dawson all exhanged amused glances.
"Won't you join us, Vanessa?" Pacey said, pulling out a chair for her.
"Sure," she said, taking the seat and smiling at Pacey, "I'd love to."
*****
Pacey and Vanessa became fast friends. In fact, they spent every
available moment together. Vanessa didn't go to school, so during the day she
was a receptionist at a travel agency.
As the days went on, Vanessa began getting restless. "Pacey," she said
one day, when they were at the local ice cream parlor, "I've been here a
couple weeks now, but nothing seems to happen. I've pretty much stayed inside
the town. I heard about some caves along the coast, and I was wondering if you
knew where they were."
"Sure," Pacey said, "I used to go there all the time. Do you want to go
there this weekend? I'll be happy to go with you."
Vanessa smiled, "That would be great. I think I can get Saturday off. We
can take a picnic and go explore the caves all day long. Maybe we can even go
deeper into them than most people. Imagine what we could find!"
Pacey frowned. "I don't think we should go really deep into them. The
caves are pretty extensive and we could get lost forever."
Vanessa laughed. "Don't tell me that you're a chicken, Pacey," she said,
challenging him.
Pacey grinned. "I'm not," he said, "And you know what Vanessa? We'll go."
To seal the deal, they shook hands.

When the week-end came, pretty much everyone had plans. Jen was going to
visit her parents up in New York. Pacey and Vanessa had their cave plans. And
Dawson and Joey were going to spend all day watching old home videos.
Pacey and Vanessa's day had gone well. Pacey had ridden on the back of
Vanessa's motorcycle, and they took their lunch on the shore, then leaving to
explore the caves.
"Wow," Vanessa said, shining the flashlight on the walls where hundreds
of names had been signed, "Look at all the people who came here."
"Let me show you something," Pacey said, leading her a little further
down, "Look here," he said, shining his flashlight on the cavern wall.
The entire wall was filled with drawings. Vanessa admired the drawings,
finally noticing the name signed by them. Pacey Witter.
"You drew these?" she asked amazed, "Wow, you're a fantastic artist. You
never told me you could draw...Know what? I want to leave my mark too."
Pacey smiled. "Grab a spot," he said, gesturing towards the walls.
Vanessa studied the walls, finally shaking her head. "Not these, I want
my own wall. Come on," she said, grabbing his hand, "Let's head this way."
They headed even farther into the caves, leaving Pacey to wonder...and
hope...that they could find their way out.

"Oh my god!" Joey exclaimed, laughing at the screen, "I don't remember
that."
On Dawson's TV screen was the image of a very young Dawson and Joey. It
was Joey's seventh birthday, and her and Dawson had gotten ahold of the
cake...and started a food fight with each other.
Both Dawson and Joey cracked up at the image of them covered in cake.
Just then, the young Dawson ran over and kissed Joey's face. He then turned to
the camera and exclaimed, "Daddy! Joey tastes like cake!"
Dawson and Joey both lost it there. "Oh..my...god.. Dawson said,
laughing, "I don't remember doing that! That is classic."
Joey laughed. "Look at you covered in cake. You look so ridiculous. She
collapsed in peals of laughter.
"Look who's talking!" Dawson said, laughing, "You're covered in cake too
and you don't exactly look so great."
They both kept laughing, and Dawson got an idea. "I'll be right back, he
said mysteriously.
Dawson was gone for a couple minutes, and Joey kept laughing at the
antics going on the screen. She was laughing so hard, that she didn't notice
when Dawson reappeared, cake in hand.
SPLAT! Dawson threw a piece of cake at Joey's face. She turned around,
shocked, and began laughing. "You're going down Leery!" she exclaimed,
grabbing a fistful of cake from the plate.
Dawson and Joey began an all-out cake war, throwing cake in each other's
faces. When they ran out of cake, they both sat on the bed, laughing.
"I can't believe we did that!" Joey exclaimed, wiping cake out of her
face.
Dawson grinned, and reached over with his hand. He wiped his finger along
her face, and put the cake in his mouth. "You still taste like cake," he said,
smiling at her.
The mood suddenly became heavy. They looked at each other, covered with
cake. Neither one was laughing. They leaned towards each other, closing their
eyes.
Right before their lips met, the ground started shaking. "What's that!" a
terrified Joey yelled.
"EARTHQUAKE!" Dawson yelled over the noise. Something came out from
within Dawson, an urge to protect Joey. Throwing his arm around her waist, he
rushed her to the door frame, where they hugged each other, terrified, to wait
out the earthquake.
*****
Vanessa was just finishing her cave artwork when the shaking
started."EARTHQUAKE!" she yelled to Pacey, who was running towards her. They
grabbed each other, and rushed away, just as rocks began coming down.
They ran through the caves, trying to escape the rocks that were coming
down from the rafters. They were almost to the door when a huge pile of rocks
came crashing down. The last noise Pacey heard was Vanessa screaming as the
rocks began to hit them.
*****
"Is it over?" asked a shaken up Joey as the shaking subsided.
"I...I think so," Dawson said, carefully leading Joey out from under the
doorframe.
"Oh God!" Joey exclaimed, falling down on the ground. Dawson immediately
dived down next to her.
"Are you ok Jo?" Dawson asked, hugging her.
Joey started shaking, and Dawson knew she was crying. "Oh God, I was so
scared," she said, sobbing, "I kept thinking that the walls were going to come
down on us and we were going to die. I don't want to die Dawson. My mom died
on me and Bessie, and I can't die on Bessie and Alexander. They need me. I
just can't leave them."
"Shhh," Dawson said, rocking her back and forth, "You didn't die, Jo. I'm
glad you didn't. It would kill me, literally kill me if you died."
Sniffing, Joey looked at him and asked, "Do you mean that Dawson? Do you
mean it?"
Smiling at her, Dawson said, "Of course Jo. God, I don't know what I
would do without you. You're the only thing keeping me planted in reality."
Laughing despite herself, Joey said, "Even I can't keep you firmly rooted
in reality, Dawson. You're so in the clouds, no one can pull you down. But
that's what makes you special."
The two of them sat there in each other's arms, comforting each other.

When Pacey came to, the first thing he thought of was Vanessa. Sitting
up, he was amazed to see that he was relatively unscathed. He had a cut on his
forehead, but it wasn't bad.
Pacey saw Vanessa buried under some rocks. "Oh god," he said, looking at
her collapsed form. "Vanessa?" he called, "Vanessa, wake up!"
Vanessa didn't wake up, so Pacey began pulling the rocks off of her. When
they were gone, Pacey began getting frantic.
"Ok, I can't move her, her back might be broken. Help, I'll go get help."
Pacey ran out of the caves and over to Vanessa's motorcycle. He was
nervous, because he had never driven one before, but Vanessa needed his help.
*****
Vanessa woke up in the hospital a few hours later. The first thing she
saw when she woke up was Pacey, asleep in a chair.
"Good to see you're up," the nurse said, walking into the room, "Miss
Ryder, we have some important information to discuss about you. I think you
know what it is."
Vanessa's face fell. She knew exactly what the nurse was talking about.
"Can we talk about it in private?" she said, gesturing towards Pacey.
The nurse nodded, and pulled a wheelchair out of the corner. Helping
Vanessa into in, the nurse wheeled Vanessa towards Dr. Thacker's office.
*****
Pacey awoke only to find that Vanessa wasn't in her bed. Concerned, he
stepped out of her room and looked around. It was around midnight, so there
wasn't much action going on.
Pacey heard voices coming from an open office door down the hall, so he
began walking that way.
*****
"Miss Ryder," Dr. Thacker said, looking at a file, "When we tried to pull
up your medical record we ran into a problem. No such file exists under the
name Vanessa Ryder."
Vanessa's face went pale. They knew. There was no use denying anything
now. "No," she said, "There isn't. Vanessa Ryder doesn't exist."
Dr. Thacker nodded grimly. "No," he said, "she doesn't. But you do. Now,
we ran some blood tests. While we ran them, we cross-referenced the files of
runaways in this area. One of them matched your profile. Hello Stephanie."
