“ I am SO bored!” Joey Potter was draped across Jen Lindley’s bed on a
Friday evening.
“Capeside, boring? No way!” Jen grinned and looked up from her
pedicure-she was painting her toenails red. “So whatcha gonna do about
it?”
“I don’t know. Let’s see- I could watch movies with Dawson, hang out
with you, threaten Pacey- nope, not exactly new.”
“hey! I thought you were starting to like the stupid quizzes in
Seventeen and red nail polish!”
“I’m working on it Jen, I really am.” Jen turned to face Joey.
“ Okay, Pacey I understand, but Dawson? Is there trouble in Paradise?”
“No, it’s great! It’s just that sixteen years watching movies is a long
time, so it’s not really novel anymore. Just forget I said anything,
Jen.”
“Whatever.” Jen went back to painting her nails. Joey went back to
trying not to rip the stupid teen magazine she was reading into bits.
After a few hours and a few tubs of ice cream, Jen had an idea.
“Joey, your best friend has always been Dawson. Did you ever play
dress-up when you were little?”
“No, and I’m not in a hurry to.”
“Come on, it’ll be fun. You know, I didn’t leave all of New York behind.
There’s a reason I have two closets.”
“Jen, you are so psycho.”
“It’s an art deary, really.” Jen led Joey over to the closet. When she
opened it, Joey gasped. Inside looked like last year’s coolest
department stores all put together.
“No way I’m putting any of this on. I wouldn’t fit it anyways.” Joey
said.
‘My older sister went to boarding school last year, she has to wear
uniforms so I keep most of her clothes here for her. She’s about your
size.”
Joey stood, arms crossed.
“not gonna happen, Jen.”
“Joey, we’re going to be Juniors next year. Don’t tell me that you’ve
never, in sixteen years, wanted to try this on.” Jen pulled a tiny
spandex dress out of the closet.’
Joey, a little hyper from all the ice cream, laughed and grabbed the
dress.
“Fine. But only because you’re making me.”
Jen and Joey were about halfway through the closet when a knock came in
the window. It seemed that the ladder-at-window trend had caught on.
“Dawson? Pacey? Hold on a minute guys. Stay outside!” Joey called from
the other side of the room. She was halfway in to a pair of leather
pants.
“Jen! what are they doing here? I look so stupid!”
“Joey, shut up and get the pants on!”
“right.” Joey pulled and tugged at the extremely tight leather pants for
a few minutes.
Another knock came at the window.
“Hello?hello? esta alguien en casa? “ Pacey called from the window.
“Coming!” Joey yelled. She checked her outfit- black leather pants and a
skimpy red tank top in the mirror, sauntered up to the window, and
pulled back the curtains.
“Hey guys” She said in her best bad girl voice. Pacey, on the top of the
ladder, gaped at what he saw. Joey. In tight leather pants. whoa.
Fortunately for Pacey’s well being, Joey didn’t see the look on his
face. She didn’t have time to- Dawson, below Pacey on the ladder, pushed
him through the window. Pacey landed with a yelp.
“Ow!”he protested.
“Sorry man, it’s just that-” Dawson began. He stopped speaking when he
saw Joey.
He walked up to her and encircled her in his arms.
“The harder it is to get off, the more fun” He whispered in her ear. She
blushed and slugged him in the stomach. Undeterred, Dawson whispered
again
“ You know, leather turns me on” He said, half-joking.
“Really.” Joey replied, “more than this?” She leaned up and kissed
Dawson.
When it appeared that Dawson and Joey were not going to stop sucking
face anytime soon, Pacey turned around and finally noticed Jen. Jen was
wearing leather pants. Pacey wondered why he hadn’t noticed her earlier.
“So, Jen, I take it this is your idea? Not that it’s a bad one...in
fact, I think all females should be required by law to wear leather
pants.”
“Sounds like one to ask Doug about.”
“Ok, maybe not. But I still like the leather.” He eyed Jen
appreciatively. She saw him and got an idea. Another idea.
“Pacey, you say you like leather?” She asked. She turned to Dawson and
Joey, who were having difficulties. This was mainly due to the fact that
the zipper on Joey’s leather jacket was stuck.
“Hey guys, the shower’s that way, and if you turn the knob to cold, it
might help!” Pacey and Jen both yelled. Joey and Dawson looked up,
embarrassed.
“Hey guys” Jen spoke. “ If you all like leather so much, why are Joey
and I the only ones wearing it?”
“Stupid evil Stupid Jen. How did we get ourselves into this?” Dawson
asked.
“If I recall, I think you were the one with the great reaction to
leather. Besides,” Pacey added. “ I think I look goooooood!” The two
guys were in Jen’s bathroom putting on leather clothes that Billy had
left in Capeside. Pacey had on a leather vest and pants. The vest-
well, let’s just say that Pacey had nice arms. And a great butt.
Dawson
had a Jacket and pants.
“Pacey, in infomercial lingo- these pants show every unsightly bulge.”
“Ah, I get your drift. Well, you never know. Leather pants may change
Joey’s attitude
towards it all.”
“Not in this lifetime. She’s freaked she’ll turn into her sister- having
kids too young. “
“She could be right.”
“ Pacey, let’s not extend this torturous conversation , please? And let's
also not delay the inevitable humiliation. Let’s go. “ Pacey and Dawson
headed back into Jen’s room.
After about a zillion Polaroids and bad biker jokes, ‘the gang’ was
finally calm again.
“Dawson, I’m dying here. I hate these pants! Let’s change and go back to
your house and watch movies.”
“Can’t we change back at my house?” Dawson pleaded with an absurd
puppydog look.
“Fine. “ Joey agree. “ But no peeking.”
“ Hey guys?” Dawson tried to get Pacey’s attention. He was trying to get
a Polaroid of him looking very , very stupid away from Jen. Dawson
caught them just as Pacey had tackled Jen on the bed. Jen turned red
and sat up.
“yeah?”
“We’re going to go watch some movies. See you tomorrow?”
“Hey, we can watch movies here” Pacey started to say. Jen punched him in
the stomach and Dawson shot her a grateful look.
“ Later!” Joey said as they climbed out the window.
As soon as they were out of earshot, Jen started laughing
uncontrollably.
“What’s so funny? Maybe I’m not Billy, but I think I make this look
good.” Jen ignored him and pointed to the window.
“ Pacey, I really doubt that Joey can get those pants off by herself.
They’re kinda tight.”
“I see what you’re saying.” Pacey giggled. “ I hope they close the
blinds.”
“Yeah, me too.” Jen stood up and began to clean up her room when she
tripped over the camera and landed in Pacey’s lap.
“Sorry” She started to get up , but Pacey pulled her back.
“hey” he said softly. “ no problem.” Jen leaned back into his arms. Then,
her leather pants creaked. Both of them started laughing- again.
“ So Jen, do YOU need some help with the pants?”
“Pacey, I might be wearing New York clothes, but I’m not going back to
my New York ways.”
“sure.” Pacey smiled halfheartedly. *i can never seem to get the girls
my own age.* he thought sadly. He helped Jen clean up the mess of potato
chips, clothes and Polaroid film they had left. When it was all clean,
Pacey headed to the door.
“I’ll see you tomorrow,Jen.”
“Pacey, wait.” Jen came to the door.
“Thanks for helping.”
“no problem.” Pacey started out the door.
“Pacey?” Jen said.
“Yeah?”
“Sometimes I miss New York.” Jen leaned in and kissed Pacey. Pacey
smiled ( as well as he could just then) and kissed her back. Needless to
say, it wasn’t a short kiss. In the middle of it, Pacey, who was near
the doorframe, accidentally leaned against the light switch. It was
pitch black in Jen’s room.
But, next door, the light was still on.......
