Joey walked into school searching the halls for Dawson. She
couldn't
find
him, but she did find Pacey.
"Hey Pacey, where's Dawson?"
"I'm not sure. Hey Jo, nice jacket. That real leather?"
"Yeah. You really like it?"
"Makes you look tough. Where'd you get it?"
"Wouldn't you like to know."
"Oh I get it. Leather jacket from the mystery man."
"Sure Pace, you got it all figured out."
"No really, I know about these things. Guys give girls their
jackets
to mark
them, let others know that they're taken. You might want to take it
off
though, cause Dawson's coming up right behind you."
Joey turned to see Dawson walking down the hall. "Hey Pace, Jo.
Joey,
nice
jacket. Who's is it?"
"Not you too!" Joey turned and stormed down the hall.
Dawson looked at Pacey, "what was that about?"
"I just told Joey about the traditional guy gives girl jacket
thing.
She
didn't deny it, so it must be true."
"But who gave it to Joey?"
~*~*~*~*~*~
Dawson followed Joey the rest of the day, trying to catch a glimpse
of
the
guy Joey was seeing. She went to her classes, stopped by the
Icehouse,
and
went home. Nothing unusual there.
But Dawson couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong.
Joey
would
have told me, wouldn't she?
Dawson didn't realize he was standing outside Joey's bedroom
window.
She
came outside, "Dawson? What are you doing here?"
"I just came by, to, talk to you. See how you were."
"Dawson, have you been following me? I had a strange sense that you
were
around me all day today."
"God, I'm sorry Joey. Pacey started talking about the jacket and
some
guy,
and well, I guess I got jealous."
"What is it with this guy thing? What makes you think I'm seeing
someone?"
"The jacket. You are wearing someone's leather jacket, so I just
figured..."
"Dawson," Joey began. She took his hand and they sat down by the
water.
"There is no guy. Dawson, some of my dads things were sent to us the
other
day by my grandmother. She had a whole bunch of my mothers clothes, and
this
jacket. It's my mothers' Dawson, at least it was my mothers."
Dawson looked at her sympathetically. "I'm sorry Joey. I shouldn't
have
assumed..."
"It's okay Dawson. Can we just drop this other guy thing?"
"Sure. If it means anything, the jacket looks good on you."
"Thanks Dawson."
