The Flood by Snowgirl
Part Two in the Series

"Come on girls! We got here early and you're still not ready to leave."

"We're ready, Dawson. I just want to make sure I have all of Allie's gifts."

"Honey, you're going to give the poor kid a complex if you keep calling him by a girl's name." Pacey laughed.

"Well, Sweet Cheeks," Joey's reply was a bit sharp, she hates being call Honey in public. "It's better then your name."

"Hey, Xander is a great name. Strong, but friendly."

"Consider the source Joey, his name is Pacey."

"Can it, Dawson."

"Okay, now that we know every one but me has a weird name, can we go?" said Jen, the piecemaker, and the only one with a 'normal' name.

"I don't know. Do we have everything?"

"Yes, all of Alex's presents are wrapped and secured in the Explorer."

"Oh, okay I guess I'm ready."

Pacey and Dawson picked up the last of the girls bags and walked out the door. Joey piddled around afraid she forgot a present.

"Okay Joey, that's it. Out the door." Jen grabed Joeys arm and draged her out of the dorm room. Joeys "But..." was cut off by the closing of the door.

{Later, in the Explorer, outside of Capeside}

"Dawson did you catch a weather report before you left?" Asked a very anxious Joey.

"No. We left before the weather came on. Didn't you guys watch it?"

"No. The TV's on the fritzs. This rain is beginning to scare me."

"Oh, Boy!" Pacey's understatement was accompanied by the skidding of the tires and the squeal of the brakes.

"Oh, no!" Wailed Joey.

"What?" Dawson and Jen asked. They were in the back seat and coudn't see what had happened.

"The road's washed out. We're going to have to backtrack and stay at the motel in Sunnydale." Announced Pacey.

"No, it's Allie's birthday party. I don't want to miss it. I can't believe this. We've lived in Capeside for twenty two years and now it decides to flood. This is so unfair."

Pacey pats Joey's hand. "It's okay Josephine. The party isn't until tomarrow afternoon. I'm sure we can get through by then."

"I'm sorry, it's just that I haven't seen Bessie in months."

"I know I don't think there are any lines down yet. We can call her from the motel."

"Hey, Jen" Dawson asks. "Do Cliff and Mary Beth live in Sunnydale?"

"Yeah, they just bought a house. Well, his father just bought them a house."

Joey wondered at loud, "Who would have thought that they'd get married."

"I've got a bigger question, who would have thougth that I'd be their best man?"

"Well Dawson, you were the one who got them together in the first place." Said Jen. "I'm sure they'll let us stay there for the night. I haven't talked to Cliff in ages."

"It's better then a motel, I'm in." Pacey said as he turned the Explorer around.

"Hey Joey, did you get a hold of Bessie?"

"No, Pace. I couldn't find her anywhere. The line went dead. I was talking to Mrs. Leery just now and we got disconnected. She said the creek was high, but that she doesn't think it's reached my house yet. And there was no answer at the Ice House. I'm scared Pacey."

Pacey walked over to the couch and wraped his arms around Joey. "It's going to be all right, Love. I'm sure Bessie, Bodie and Xander are all nice, dry, cozy and warm in some little corner of Capeside."

"But what if they're not safe and dry? I mean what's going to happen?"
