1985 Miss Universe Pageant

  • VENUE: MIAMI, FLORIDA
  • NO. OF CONTESTANTS: 82
  • HOST: BOB BARKER
  • CO-HOST: JOAN VAN ARK

For a second year in a row, the Miss Universe Pageant was broadcasted live from Miami, Florida. The set was decorated with an enormous map of the world, patterned from the original world map created by Mercator.

The music chosen for this year's theme song was "New Attitude" by the Pointer Sisters. I have to say that this is one of those years that a lot of contestants stood out in the parade of nations and it seems like no matter what you do, you cannot get your list down to just 10. I particularly noticed Miss Uruguay, Miss Canada, Miss Spain, Miss Scotland, Miss Iceland, Miss USA, Miss Chile, Miss Norway and Miss Zaire. Miss Uruguay reminds me so much of Goldie Hawn, who by the way, is one of my favorite actresses in Hollywood. Miss USA, I thought was a good choice because she fit in perfectly with the crowd...being hispanic of origin and not only that but she was just beautiful!

To this day, I still believe that Miss Colombia's costume that year has been one of the most beautiful ones I've seen....and that's proabably why she did win the Best Costume award that year.
