Rachel's Room Decorations

I've been pondering for a while on what type of theme to go with. I toyed with the idea of an Old English style or something bright and cheery to compensate for the cold white Section halls. But having just watched one of my favorite films (Le Hussard sur le Toit) I've finally settled on a traditional Provencale theme to create a kind of warm summer feel.

I would start by painting my walls a soft dusky yellow, and then I'd hang pale blue drapes with a floral vine pattern in the windows. If my windows were large enough I'd attempt to fix some wooden volet shutters on them, maybe Michael would help if I asked nicely:) I also wouldn't mind some window boxes to fill with flowers, Michael could come in useful again If there were wooden floorboards I'd cover them with plain woven rugs. At the end of the room I'd have a traditional wooden bed with natural damask covers and the duvet cover would have a fine Chambray pattern. To match the drapes I would have the same floral vine detail embroidered around the edges of the duvet cover and pillowslips. On my wooden bedside table I'd have natural ceramic vase filled with sunflowers.

I'd hang some off-white chiffon fabric on some of the walls to give the room a softer, cozier feel. On one of the longer walls I'd hang an oil painting of traditional rural Provencale scene; yellow cornfields in the foreground surrounded by woodland coppices. In the background there would be dramatic limestone rock escarpments on the hillside.

The rest of the furniture would be made from wood matching the bed, though I might paint some of it in a very pale blue to balance out the colour scheme. I'd try to light the room with soft, natural light. For the ceiling light I would use an up lighter shade to diffuse the light up to the ceiling. Alternatively I was thinking of making some traditional paper lanterns that could hang down from the ceiling. I was also hoping to find a wooden votive set to put vanilla scented, floating candles in.

The only problem now is where to put my PC, hi-fi, TV and movie posters? I don't think they'd blend very well with the traditional feel of the room. Maybe I could disguise the TV and hi-fi in wooden cabinets when they aren’t in use. As for my Leon, Nikita and Bladerunner posters I think I might have to put them in a draw and look at them from time to time, but I think the sacrifice would be worth it:)

Finally to finish the occasion I would ask Michael round to give me his opinion;) I would have brush up on my French culinary skills and attempt to cook a traditional Provenacle meal, although considering my expertise in the kitchen or rather lack of, this might be a little too ambitious:)
