Considering his entrance onto the show as bed partner of rock star, Cherish, the fact that Carrie Brady did not return Lucas Roberts' feelings for her must have been quite the blow to his ego.
They first became friends after the "Face of the Nineties" incident, and he encouraged her to get plastic surgery to repair her face. Austin felt the warm fuzzies for Jennifer Horton during this time, as she had given him a spot on her talk show. Austin and Carrie were apart for over a year, but they made up and became intimate again. Lucas was left on the sidelines. He tried to help out during the Alan Harris rape-incident, and Carrie was grateful for his assistance in making Alan confess. After Sami drugged and slept with Austin-who-soon-to-be-"Duh-Boy," Carrie suspected him of being unfaithful. Austin himself had seen what he thought was Carrie's sweater in the Titan building while Sami and Lucas were "consoling" each other, and thought that she'd been unfaithful.
Austin and Carrie teamed up to try to find Sami after she'd run away to L. A., and became lovers again. They planned their wedding and Lucas decided to pull out all the stops as he blackmailed Vivian Alamain into finding Sami for him. (He suspected Vivian of having something to do with his mother's death.) Sami made it to the wedding, collapsed and murmured something about her "baby." When it was discovered that she was pregnant, Duh-Boy admitted that the baby could be his. Carrie slapped the hell out of him and the entire Brady clan proclaimed him to be scum for what he'd done. It looked like Lucas was ahead, for awhile at least.
Lucas tried to win Carrie's love, but Carrie warmed to Duh-Boy again as he stayed by Sami during her pregnancy. William Robert Reed was born on November 16, 1995 at 8:30 P.M. The following New Year's Eve, Duh-Boy and Carrie made a pact to meet each other on the roof of a building at the stroke of midnight if they still had feelings for each other. Sami changed the times on their watches and they missed each other by minutes. Sami then slipped a mickey into Carrie's champagne and put her in bed with Lucas who was staggering drunk by the time he showed up. Duh-Boy saw them together and decided that Carrie no longer cared for him. Carrie and Lucas woke up not knowing how they'd gotten into bed. Sami was hospitalized from the cold she'd gotten while traipsing around in the freezing cold when Duh-Boy and Carrie met up at the hospital, he told her what he'd seen. She had no explanation for him and he turned his back on her. Shortly after that, Carrie began dating Lucas.
Disaster struck for Lucas when Jaime Caldwell and Nurse Lynn Burke revealed that Sami drugged Duh-Boy into sleeping with her. Carrie practiced that wicked slapping motion again as she decked her sister. She then hauled Duh-Boy off to the Green Mountain Lodge for a few days of "getting to know you" all over again. When they come back they tried to sue for custody of Will but lost. Sami moved into a dilapidated apartment and enticed Duh-Boy into fixing things up for her until he caught onto her schemes and refuses to see her. Then Kate gave Carrie and Duh-Boy a surprise pre-honeymoon trip to Paris. Unfortunately, Will had been kidnapped and taken to Paris to be sold on the black market and Sami was frantic. (I'd say that's payback for Sami trying to sell her own sister, in my humble opinion.)
Lucas was gleeful as Duh-Boy and Sami are married in order to reclaim Will. Sami tried to hold on as long as she could, but Duh-Boy was slipping from her grasp. Lucas can't make any headway at all with Carrie. Then, a stroke of luck occurs. Sami was run over by Duh-Boy and lost her past four years of memory and the use of her legs. Carrie was despondent that Sami's accident made it impossible for Duh-Boy to get an annulment. (According to some obscure law, one cannot throw out a wife who has amnesia.) The clueless and sweet Sami thought everything between her and Duh-Boy was peachy keen.
Mike Horton, with the intent of keeping Carrie from Lucas and his scheming ways, offered himself as a shoulder for Carrie to lean on.
Thus begins the onset of Brady & Horton, Inc., and thus effectively ends the Brady/Roberts Bid.
