The Brady Reed Brady Proxy Battle
The Brady-Reed Brady Proxy Battle

(Sami is thwarted, or so Carrie would like to believe)

Last update: October 14, 1998.

THE PRIMARY PARTIES:

Austin Reed was the prize in this battle between Caroline Brady and Samantha Brady. Sami used her faked amnesia and Carrie's sense of decency to increase her hold on Austin. She let Lucas in on her scheme to marry Austin after she'd manipulated him into believing that it was best for Will. Lucky for Sami, but unlucky for Lucas, Carrie and Mike Horton were growing closer as Carrie was pressured to help Sami get her memory back by doing such things as filling Sami in on the intimate details of Sami and Austin's sex life.

During all of this, Roman Brady came home feeling more than a little under the weather and Carrie and Mike flew out to California to try and find a cure for his ailment at a medical conference. Sami arranged for Mike and Carrie to share the honeymoon suite in the hotel, and Austin, unsuspecting of Sami's machinations, and operating under the mistaken impression that Carrie and Mike were having a wild, hot, sex-filled steamy affair in L.A. (don't we just wish!), finally asked Sami to marry him so that they and Will could be a family.

In addition to Roman Brady's return to Salem, Eric Brady, Sami's younger twin brother, returned as well. He was struggling with the Roman-Marlena-John triangle, feeling none too charitable for his mother's lover (he even took a swing at him), even though John Black had raised Eric from the time he was two (counted as nine years old by DOOL Rapid Aging Syndrome). But he came through in the end and helped Carrie and Mike to uncover what Sami was hiding: Austin was not Will's father, Lucas was.

There was a knock-down, drag out catfight between Carrie and Sami, and Carrie decided then and there that she was going to marry Austin, whether he liked it or not. To hell with her nephew, Will, Carrie was going to get what she thought she rightfully deserved!

And boy, did she ever! A husband who constantly pressured her to start a family, who did not like her career choices and who will always have a strong and lasting connection to the boy he thought was his own child.

How does the outcome of the Brady Reed Brady Proxy Battle effect the formation of B&H, Inc.?

The long and the short of it is this: Carrie made the biggest mistake in her life when she piled all of her eggs into one very fragile basket. She thought that Duh-Boy was really the same Austin Reed that she'd met when she was still a hormonal little teenage girl, but he'd changed, and for the worse. Carrie's victory over Sami was a Pyrrhic one, at best. Even though he married Carrie, Duh-Boy's not about to give up his relationship with Will. To make matters worse, Duh-Boy is still leaving Carrie to be with Will at any time of the day or night, case in point, their wedding night.

Austin and Sami discuss
how they are going to raise Will.

Sami thinks to herself:
"You will be mine again, Austin, oh yes!"

"Duh, my son's evil mom,
or the good woman I love?"

"When in doubt,
choose both!"

Carrie vs. Sami for "Duh-Boy."

"Duh, Life is good."

"Hands off, he belongs to me!"
