Wilkommen

We are welcomed to the Kit Kat Club in 1930s Berlin by a sinister Master Of Ceremonies. He introduces us to the vast array of colorful characters that entertain and live their fantasies at this local hangout.

"Life is beautiful. The girls are beautiful. Even the orchestra is beautiful."

Brian Roberts arrives in Berlin as an English tutor looking for a place of residence. He meets Sally Bowles, a singer at the club, who shares the room opposite. She agrees to allow Brian to use her room to teach English for 3 marks an hour.

Maybe This Time

Fritz becomes acquainted with Natalia, Brian's newest pupil, and seeks to win her love. Taking Sally's advice, Fritz throws aside formalities and makes love to Natalia. She realizes her love for Fritz but rejects his proposal of marriage because she is a Jew.

Brian and Sally also realize their love for each other.

"Maybe this time I'll be lucky.  Love won't hurry away."

to Me

At a country pub, Brian and Max witness the rise of Nazi leadership as a young boy sings of Germany and the evident takeover. He is joined by a mass of spectators.

Returning home from the outing with Max, Brian admits to Sally that they had an affair.

"Screw Maximilian!. I do. So do I"

Cabaret
From Stage
to Screen

Never has a stage musical received such an altered transition to screen with such success. What was once a bizarre musical is now an Oscar-drenched dramatic movie with songs thrown in. Winner of 8 Oscars, the film Cabaret was given a new script with new characters and new songs. Several of the original songs were replaced with Mein Herr and Maybe This Time, whereas Natalia and Fritz replaced the characters of Schneider and the grocer. Joel Grey reprises as the Master Of Ceremonies (Best Supporting Actor) and Liza Minnelli and Michael York (Sally and Brian) portray the characters with the depth required for a piece of this standard. Cabaret is a drama within a musical. All the songs occur at the Kit Kat Club, which tell the story that unfolds. The setting of a sleazy nightclub is purely incidental.
The dramatic situations, such as the discovery of Brian's bisexuality, are handled with such brilliance that there is no disbelieve when this film is listed as a Top 100.

Special Thanks to Kristian Fletcher from Austrailia for supplying the stage to screen content.
