{At the hospital}
Lucky: “What am I missing? S.A.T’s? A worthless study hall? I mean, you know my schedule backwards and forwards. It's not like I cut a real class.”
Lizzie: “Yeah, but the thing is I’m fine with the counseling sessions. The weirdness is totally gone. So you don't have to rearrange your schedule just to hold my hand.”
Lucky: “Is that what you think? I'm here for you, some totally selfless act? You' wrong. This is all about me, ok? Holding your hand is on my top 10 list.”
Audrey: “Elizabeth, I tried to leave a message with you through the principal's office, but you were already on your way.”
Lizzie: “Is something wrong?”
Audrey: “No, no. It's just that Gail is tied up with an emergency patient, so she'll be delayed, possibly an hour.”
Lucky: “I don't mind hanging around -- I mean, if you don't.”
Lizzie: “No. I'm fine.”
Bobbie: “Good. We'll let you know when Gail’s ready. {They walk off} Have you ever seen such devotion?”
Audrey: “Only once.”
Lizzie: “Now you're going to miss the assembly.”
Lucky: “You think I’ll be permanently scarred?”
Lizzie: “Do you have a test to study for or a paper to write?”
Lucky: “Are you trying to get rid of me?”
Lizzie: “No, but I thought you may be procrastinating. I'm familiar with the science.”
Lucky: “As a matter of fact, I’m hard at work at this very moment -- independent research project. See, I’m doing a study on the major themes explored in the last three years -- working moms.”
Lizzie: “I’ve done that study.”
Lucky: “I know. I've watched you.”
Lizzie: “Yeah, propping me up the entire time. Lucky, if you hadn't stuck by me, I would have bolted from here so many times.”
Lucky: “You passed the bolting stage a long time ago.”
Lizzie: “And you got me through it.”
Lucky: “You did the work.”
Lizzie:
“With massive support.”
Lizzie: “I was stuck in one place for so long -- you know, totally fixated and obsessed. And people would ask me questions, people who didn't know, like 'so, what are you going to do next summer and what college do you want to go to?' I was like, 'summer? College? Are you kidding me?' My mind can't leap to that. It was like I was glued in one spot and couldn't move. I couldn't even look ahead. But now every day I wake up excited. I can't wait to see what happens next. I love my life because you're in it.”
Lucky:
“I feel the same way.”
Audrey:
“Oh. Gail's ready for you.”
Lizzie: “You'll be here?”
Lucky:
“Always.”
