Chapter 4 -The Aftermath

The entire Brady family and friends are in the living room of the DiMera Mansion. Sami was taken up to one of the guestrooms to lie down. Marlena can't believe what Sami has done. John is comforting her. She knows that she has to pull it together before she goes to see Roman.

Lucas enters the room. "Where is my son?" "He's upstairs playing with Belle and Brady." "I would like to take my son home. Tell Sami if she wants to see Will he's with me at my mom's house." Marlena speaks. "Lucas, why don't you go and talk to Sami?" "Marlena I don't know what I would do if I came face to face with her right now. I don't want to do something I am going to regret. I would just like to get Will and leave." "I understand and I will tell Sami that you have Will."

Marlena knows she can't put it off any longer she heads upstairs to talk to Sami. Marlena knocks on the door. "Sami, can I come in?" "If you must." She enters the room. Marlena sits down on the bed facing Sami. "Sami I want to talk to you." Sami gets up from the bed. "Not now mom, I just want to grab Will and take him back to Kate's." "Lucas came by and took Will back to Kate's." "How could you just stand there and let him take Will?" "What could I do? He's Will's father. Sami, how could you lie to Lucas and Austin like that." "I did even know until a few weeks ago." "But you kept lying and you would have let Austin think Will was his forever if you wouldn't have been caught." "I did what I did to keep my family together." "Boy you don't care who you hurt as long as you get what you want. Do you?" "You're right mother I'm going to do whatever I have to to get what I want." "You don't care who you hurt in the process. You know I always make excuses for you. I always clean up the mess you leave in your wake but not this time. You're a grown woman, you have a child of your own, and I think it is time for you to take responsibility for your actions." Marlena gets up off of the bed and heads for the door. "Like you never did anything wrong MOTHER? How about your affair with John?" "I took responsibility for my actions and I lost everything because of it. You should be happy that we did have that affair because if we didn't you wouldn't be able to use that as your excuse for the terrible things you have done." Marlena once again tries to leave the room.

"You know mom my problem is that you were never there for me when I needed you. Years ago we were told that you were dead. Then 5 years later we found out you were alive. I thought I would finally have the mother I longed for. Next we find out that the man who we thought was our father wasn't. You and John go away and bring our real father back. Finally we could be a family, but you send Eric and me away to Colorado. I came home and what should I see, but my mother making love to another man." Marlena turns to Sami with tears streaming down her face. "When are you going to forgive me for the affair? Even your father has forgiven me. You blame me for everything that is wrong in your life. You think you've had a rough life. Just try walking a mile in my shoes. In my life I have watched my son die…I've been raped…my twin sister is dead because of me…I've been married twice and divorced twice…I had a husband die on me…I had a husband come back from the dead not once, but three times…I've been kidnapped more times than I care to remember…been in a comma twice…finally, lets not forget being possessed by the devil." Sami is speechless. Marlena finally leaves the room. John is waiting outside the door. John takes Marlena into his arms. "Are you okay?" "I'll be fine. I have to pull myself together. I have to tell Roman what Sami did." "Do you want me there when you tell him?" "No, I think it would be better if it was just me." "I understand." Marlena hates to let go of John, but she knows that she has to talk to Roman.

Mike comes into the living room with an ice pack in his hand. He goes over to Jesse who's standing in the corner by herself. "Can I take a look at that hand?" "Are you sure you want to get that close to me? Everyone in the room seems to be afraid of me." "I'll take my chances. Can you move your fingers for me?" Jesse moves her fingers. "Nothing seems broken. Keep the ice pack on for a while to prevent swelling." "Yes doctor. How are you?" "I'll be okay." "Don't give up on Carrie. It's not like Sami's obsession is just going to vanish into thin air. I know this girl and she never gives up. She is never going to leave Austin alone. I personally think you are the better man for Carrie." Mike smiles.

Alice comes over to talk to Jesse. "Hello, I am Alice Horton." "I'm Jesse Hayes. It is a pleasure to finally meet you." "You have one heck of a right cross dear. You can really take care of yourself." "I normally don't do that. I don't know what came over me." "Well, I came over here because I heard that you were a social worker back in Colorado." "Yes." "Tell me dear, are you going to be staying in town for a while? If you were would you be interested in coming to work at The Horton Center?" "Absolutely." "Would you be able to come in this Monday?" "That would be perfect. My daughter is arriving this weekend and I should have her settled in by Monday. Thank you so much. I really appreciate this." "I will see you Monday."

Marlena takes a deep breath before she goes into Roman's room. She turns back to John. "I'll be right here if you need me." Marlena nods her head and opens the door. Shawn and Caroline are sitting next to Roman's room. Roman notices Marlena. "Doc what the hell happened today?" "How much have Caroline and Shawn told you?" "We told him everything Marlena." Marlena walks over to the bed and sits facing Roman. "After you left Mike filled us in on the secret Sami has been hiding. Apparently Austin is not Will's father." "Who is the father of our grandson?" "Lucas Roberts. Sami slept with Lucas around the same time she drugged Austin to get him to sleep with her. When she became pregnant she just assumed that the child was Austin's." "Marlena what has happened to our sweet little Sami?" "I don't know. I honestly don't know how I am going to get through to her." Roman takes Marlena's hand. "Marlena maybe together we can get through to her. Maybe our sweet Sami will come back to us." "I hope you're right. I think you have had enough excitement for one day. Why don't we all leave you to get some rest? We'll talk about Sami tomorrow." Marlena, Shawn, and Caroline leave the room.

Eric approaches Jesse. "How's your hand?" "It hurts." "I saw Mrs. Horton talking to you. What did she want?" "She offered me a job at the Horton Center. Did you have anything to do with that?" Eric nods his head. "Does this mean you're not mad at me for decking your sister?" "I still think you could have found a better way to stop her, but I am not mad. Someone in this family had to make some money so we can get married." "Ha ha very funny. Why don't we go to Carrie's and start moving some of our things over here? I want to be settled in before Maddie gets here."

Eric and Jesse are in the foyer when they run into Carrie and Austin. "Hey guys where is everyone?" "Almost everyone is in the living room. Why?" "Austin and I have decided to become re-engaged." "That's wonderful news." Jesse hugs Carrie. Eric shakes Austin's hand. "We are going to take things slowly. Why don't we go into the living room and tell everyone else the good news. Excuse us."

John is waiting for Marlena outside of Roman's room. Marlena finally leaves the room. "John, I really need to be alone with you." They walk hand in hand down the stairs. "How about the penthouse?" "No, we can't Susan's back." They get to the bottom of the stairs when they notice that Jesse and Eric are about to leave. Jesse speaks first. "What's up with you two?" "We're trying to find a place where we could spend some time alone." "How about Carrie's apartment? We're going to move our things tonight so our room is going to be empty. Carrie is going to be over at Austin's. Why don't we all go over there? That way John can help Eric carry my luggage to the car. Eric, John why don't the two of you go and get the cars while Marlena and I talk." John puts his arm around Eric and says, "I think we are in for a long night kid."

"So Marlena did you tell John about your little fainting spell?" "No I don't want to bother him. He has so much on his mind with Stefano and all. I am sure it's nothing." "I still think you should see a doctor." "I'll be fine. It's sweet of you to worry." "It's a little selfish on my apart. I just want to have a mother-in-law around so I can complain about her to my friends." Both of them laugh. Suddenly there is a very loud honk. Marlena heads for the door. "Wait Marlena we are not women to be honked at. Let them come in and get us!" A few minutes pass then John and Eric stick their heads in the door. "Are you ladies coming?" "Now we are!"
