Chapter 5 - Will You Marry Me?

Jesse and Eric are in one of the guestrooms in the DiMera mansion. Jesse's opening the bed. Eric jumps into the bed. "What do you think you are doing?" "I am going to go to bed. What does it look like?" "Eric, I think you should sleep in another room." "Why?" "Well both of your parents are living here and I don't feel comfortable with the two of us sleeping in the same bed here." "You're kidding me right." "No, it just doesn't feel right." "Well then I guess we have to get married right away." "Oh no. I am not having this conversation again. We are not getting married until you finish college." "That's not fair. I don't know when I'll be able to go back because of the stuff with my dad." "I just think it would be better if we waited." Suddenly they hear coughing coming from Roman's room.

Eric and Jesse race to Roman's room. "Dad! Are you okay?" Roman is having trouble catching his breath. Jesse grabs the oxygen mask. "Roman put this on and take deep breaths." Kristen walks in. Jesse tells her to find Mike. "Mike left. He was beeped and he had to go to the hospital. I'll call for an ambulance." Roman starts to breathe normally. He takes the oxygen mask off. "I'm fine! I don't need an ambulance! Where's Marlena?" Jesse does some quick thinking. "She's with a patient, but she did leave a number where she could be reached. Eric and I will go call her." Jesse and Eric leave the room.

"Eric. Are you alright?" "He could really die. Jesse I think we should get married now. I want my dad to be at our wedding. Jesse please I have never wanted anything more in my life. I promise you I will finish college. Please marry me!" Jesse takes Eric into her arms. "If this is what you really want then I will marry you." "How about the day after tomorrow?" "You people in Salem don't give a girl much time to plan a wedding. Whatever you want."

Sami comes out of her room. She's still in her wedding dress. "What just happened?" "Your dad just had an attack." "Where's Mom?" "She's out." "So my dad is dying and she is out having sex with John." "Shut up Sami. Roman might hear you." "Oh yeah heaven forbid my dad might hear the truth." "Marlena left because she had to get away from you and the mess you made. We have everything under control. Why don't you go home to your son?" Jesse and Eric walk away from her. Sami begins to talk to herself. "I think it's about time I get rid of Jesse. I have to find out something that will break up her and Eric forever. Maybe it's time I went back to Colorado."

Marlena and John are talking in Carrie's living room. "John I just don't know what I am going to do to get through to Sami. She is never going to admit she needs help." John takes Marlena into his arms. "Doc, we'll figure something out. Whatever it takes. We will get through to her." Just then the phone rings and Marlena answers it. "Hello." "Mom." "Eric what's wrong." "Dad just had some kind of attack. He's fine but I think you had better come back to the mansion." "Of course John and I will be there in a few minutes." Marlena hangs up the phone. "What happened?" "Roman just had an attack. He's fine but I think we should go. John I promise you one day this will all be behind us and we will make up for every minute we lost." "I am going to hold you to that promise." "You'd better."

Eric and Jesse are sitting in the living room having tea when John and Marlena come back. "Eric, how's Roman?" "He's fine now. He's sleeping." "I think we'll go up and check on him." "Marlena before you and John go Eric and I have decided that we are going to get married the day after tomorrow." Marlena hugs Jesse. "I think that is a wonderful idea." "Well I am glad to hear that because I would like for you to help me plan it." "Of course I will help you." "I know we don't know each other very well but I don't know anyone else in town. What I am trying to say is will you be my maid of honor?" "Yes I will." Jesse turns to John. "I was wondering if you would like to give the bride away. I would ask Roman but I think Sami wouldn't like that at all. You are like Eric's father and Belle is so young I don't think she would mind. So would you like to give the bride away?" "I would be honored. Does this mean I have to pay for the wedding?" "I didn't mean it like that John." "I know. I have the money and I would like to do this for the two of you. I still think of Eric as my son." Jesse hugs John. "Thank you so much! I think we should get to bed Eric. We have to go to the airport early tomorrow to pick up Maddie."

John and Marlena continue to talk in the living room. "That was a wonderful thing you just did." "What?" "Offering to pay for the wedding." "I still think of Eric as my son. I want to do anything I can for him. Besides Jesse doesn't have anyone and my money is just lying around collecting dust in a bank somewhere. What good is having all this money if you can't spend it on the ones you love." Marlena hugs John. "You are the most wonderful man." "I already know that. Tell me something I don't know." "How about I love you more than life itself?" "Nope I already know that one. Try again." "How about I want to make love to you right this very second!" "That's very interesting. Go on." "How about we go upstairs to my room and we finish this conversation?" "What about Roman?" "Do you think you can be very quiet?" "I think I can manage."

It's another day at the Salem airport.

"What flight did Martha say she would be on?" "Flight 105 out of Boulder! Would you relax?" I can't help it. I can't wait to see her. "FLIGHT 105 FROM BOULDER COLORADO NOW UNLOADING AT GATE 5." "Come on Eric I want our faces to be the first ones she sees when she gets off the plane! Where is she I don't see her." "She's probably going to be the last one off." Suddenly a stewardess comes off the plane holding a little girl's hand. "There she is." Maddie sees her mommy. She lets go of the woman's hand and she runs into her mother's arms. "Oh my sweet angel. Oh how I have missed you!" "Me miss you too mommy!" Jesse just keeps holding her and planting kisses all over her face. "Mommy stop!" "I'm sorry sweetie. I am just making up for all the days I didn't see you." "Daddy! Oops!" "You know what Maddie." "No what?" "Eric and I are getting married in a couple of days. So I think it's okay if you call him daddy." "I missed you daddy." "I missed you too squirt." Eric picks Maddie up and the three of them head over to the DiMera mansion.

John, Marlena, Belle and Brady are anxiously awaiting Maddie's arrival in the living room. Jesse, Eric and Maddie enter the mansion. Eric bends over to tell Maddie something. "What are you two up to?" "Nothing. Remember what I told you Maddie." "Oktay daddy?" "Hi everyone. Marlena, John, Belle, and Brady I would like for you all to meet my daughter Madison." Belle goes over to Maddie. "Do you like to play tea party?" "Yes!" "Come on let's go play." Belle grabs Maddie's hand and they head for the playroom. Eric stops Maddie before they leave. "Did you forget something?" "I forgot." Maddie runs over to Marlena. She gives Marlena a big hug and a kiss. "Hi ya grandma!" Maddie turns around and runs out of the room to catch up with Belle and Brady. Jesse smacks Eric on the arm. "Eric is that what you told her to do?" "What? She is going to be Maddie's grandmother isn't she. "Jesse it's ok. After all I already have a grandson."

Marlena and Jesse are in the living room putting plans together for the wedding. The men are off ordering the tuxes. Marlena starts to go over the list of things that have to be done for the wedding. "You decided on your dress. I have my dress and Maddie has hers. Caroline is going to handle the food. Carrie is making phone calls to the guests. We ordered the cake and the flowers. Is there anything we forgot?" "How about the kitchen sink? Thank you Marlena for helping me with all of the arrangements. You don't know how much this means to me." "I think I do know." "I really miss my mother at times like these." "Jesse, tell me do you ever wonder about your birth parents." "Yes." "Do you know who they are?" "I have my adoption records, but I never opened them. My mother was always against it. I guess it was because my dad died in a car accident when I was 10 and my mother was always afraid that my birth parents would come back to take me because she was a single mother. When I was eighteen I went to the adoption agency and I got my files. My mother was so upset when she found out. She convinced me to let her put them away. You know that to this very day I still can't find them."

John and Eric enter the room. "How are the kids getting along?" "They are playing house. Belle is the mommy and Brady and Maddie are her children." "John why don't we leave Eric and Jesse alone?" John and Marlena leave the room. "Is everything ready for tomorrow?" "Yes, no thanks to you! Did you order your tux?" "Yes it will be ready for tomorrow." "Eric, are you sure you want to go through with this? You haven't dated very much. Don't you ever wonder what else is out there?" "Hey I know what else is out there and I don't want that. All I want is you." "You are so sweet." Jesse kisses Eric. "You always know the right thing to say."
