Alternate Jack & Jennifer Story -- Part Seven:
Written by Sandra
Jack & Jennifer are in Jennifer's bed now, completely oblivious to the rest of the world. All they can think of is how much they love each other and how much they never want this night to end. This night is theirs and they were going to make it one of the most special nights they will both share together.
As Jack lies above Jennifer, kissing and caressing her body, he cannot help but think how natural and "right" it feels to be so intimate with her. But, as much as he tries to bury his fearful thoughts in the back of his mind and enjoy his night with Jennifer, thoughts of this possibly being the very last time he and Jennifer make love slowly begin to seep into his mind. He thinks about how he could never bear the pain of being separated from Jennifer again. And as these ideas run through his mind, his lovemaking becomes more intense and passionate. It is almost as if he believes that he could somehow prevent being separated by Jennifer by being so passionate with her.
Jennifer, on the other hand, has managed to bury her worries about the trial in the back of her mind. She won't let any bad thought ruin her special night with Jack... even if it is their last night together. She feels such happiness at this moment. Having Jack so close, making passionate love to her, is precisely what she wanted. She feels as though she and Jack are in another world right now.... far away from all the pain and sadness that they both may face in the near future. This night of lovemaking with Jack is exactly how Jennifer wanted it to be.....
Dawn is breaking, and the sun is starting to rise in the sky. The trial is just a few short hours away....
Jack & Jennifer are lying next to each other. Jack has his arm around Jennifer and is caressing her, as she cuddles next to him with her head resting against his bare chest.
As Jennifer strokes Jack's arm she says, "Jack, I couldn't have asked for a more wonderful day and night with you. Everything was just so perfect .... like a fantasy. And I never, in my most wonderful dreams, imagined that you would propose marriage to me yesterday. Just thinking about all those beautiful words you said to me and all the enormous love I felt from you....." Jennifer pauses because she is just so overwhelmed with emotion. She is practically on the verge of tears. She catches her breath and continues...... "Jack, you have made me the happiest woman alive. I can never thank you enough for all the incredibly romantic things that you did for me. I love you so deeply and so completely .... more than words could ever begin to express..."
Jennifer lifts her head up and moves towards Jack's face. She looks into his blue eyes and notices he has tears. Jennifer sees Jack's sadness and gently places her hand on his face. She strokes his cheek and leans over and gives him a gentle kiss on the lips. She wants to do everything in her power to make his emotional pain disappear. Jennifer is so emotionally connected to Jack that she knows precisely what he's thinking. She knows that he has dreamed of this reunion with her for so many years. And now that his dreams have finally come true, this wonderful life he now has with her could be taken away from him in just a few hours.
In an effort to comfort Jack, she continues to look directly into his eyes and points to her engagement ring, "Do you see this ring, Jack? This ring -- the ring you gave me last night -- it's a symbol of our eternal love for each other. And although the judge may sentence you back to prison, and we may be physically separated from each other again, it will never ever break the strong and everlasting bond and connection that we have to each other, here, in our hearts..." She gently places her hand on Jack's chest. Jack takes Jennifer's hand to his lips and kisses it.
Jennifer's words warm Jack's heart. It gives him a sense of comfort to know that he and Jennifer will maintain their emotional and spiritual connection to one another, despite the outcome of today's trial. "Jenn.... my love for you is so deep and so intense.... I know that no prison walls can keep me from feeling so connected to you. As much as it kills me to think of the possibility of being physically separated from you again, I feel a certain strength and confidence knowing that we will always maintain our emotional connection to each other, no matter what. I know that our deep love for each other will help us overcome any obstacles that may lie ahead for us. And one day, Jenn, I'm certain that we'll be officially pronounced husband and wife yet again. The ceremony will only make official what we already feel about each other deep within our hearts."
He leans towards her face and kisses her intensely on her lips. She returns his passion and places her arms around him as they continue to kiss. She stops for a moment and speaks to him with her face very close to his. "I feel confident too. I know that someday soon we will be a "family" with Abby again. We will fight and we will perist until we get you out of prison permanently, no matter what the judge tells us today." She places her lips on his and they continue to passionately kiss one another....
An hour later.....
Jennifer is downstairs and wearing a dark blue pantsuit. She is all dressed up and ready to go to the trial. She is sitting in the dining room and drinking her morning coffee. She tries to read the morning newspaper in order to help keep herself calm. But she has that nervous 'butterflies in the stomach' feeling and she is finding it more difficult to distract herself and forget about the trial that is only 2 hours away. She hears the sound of footsteps on the staircase and turns around to notice Jack coming downstairs. She notices Jack in his charcoal gray suit, white shirt and tie and remarks to him how handsome he looks. He returns the compliment by saying how beautiful she looks in her outfit. He leans down and gives her a soft kiss on her lips. Then he walks by her and takes a seat across from her at the dining room table. He helps himself to some toast, eggs and orange juice. Jennifer gives Jack a reassuring smile. He responds by gently placing his hand on her hand. Then he smiles back at her and says, "Thanks for this great breakfast, Jenn."
"You're welcome, Jack. I thought I'd prepare breakfast for us while you were upstairs getting dressed."
Jack pauses for a moment and then says, "Jenn, where's Abby? I wanted to say some things to her before she left for school...." A look of sadness appears on his face. He can't believe that this might be the last time he might see his daughter at home.
Jennifer senses the pain in Jack's eyes. She places her hand on his and says, "Jack, I know what you're thinking. But you can't think like that. You have to believe that we will all be together again. We can't give up our confidence and hope that this will happen. We have to remain strong for our daughter..."
"I know, Jenn. Abby is so young and so innocent -- she probably doesn't even understand why I haven't been there for her for the last few months. She probably doesn't even realize that I might be leaving her again...." his eyes begin to fill with tears, "Jenn, what are we going to do? What if the judge sentences me back to prison? It kills me to think of the pain and sadness she would be feeling if she found out that I was leaving her again. I just couldn't bear to know that I would be causing her this kind of grief again..."
Jennifer gets up from her seat and walks across to the other side of the table. She puts her arms around Jack to console him. He gets up from his chair and places his arms around her. They hold each other tightly. All the sadness and pain they have in their hearts, all the fear they have about being physically separated from each other, is coming to the surface. They can no longer hold back their tears and they begin to quietly cry.
Suddenly, the sound of footsteps can be heard. Jack & Jennifer quickly look up to see who it is. They turn around and notice Abby standing there watching them. She has a very innocent and curious look on her face. Jack sees his adorable daughter standing there and bends down to speak to her directly, face to face. He gives her a warm hug. And, remembering Jennifer's words to him, he puts a smile on his face and tries desperately to remain strong for his young child.
"Hi sweetheart! How's my Princess doing?"
Abby seems confused, "Daddy, you have tears in your eyes. Why are you crying?"
"Your mommy and I were just sad about something. But everything's better now. So don't worry about it. Okay, sweetheart?" he gently strokes Abby's cheek, trying to reassure her.
"Alright Daddy. If you say so," she smiles back at her father, feeling reassured by what he has told her.
Jack gently picks Abby up in his arms and carries her over to the couch in the living room. Jennifer follows him and Abby to the couch. He seats him and Abby down on the couch and he turns around to look directly at her.
"Listen, Abby, there's a few things that I want to talk to you about. Important things..." he pauses for a couple seconds to carefully think about what he is about to tell his daughter. He realizes that this could be the very last moment he spends with his daughter, as a free man. He places his hands on her arms and says, "You see, Abby, I want you to know how special you are to me....... You and your Mommy are the two most important people in my life..... I want you.... I want you to know that, no matter what happens, and wherever I go..." Jack pauses for a few moments, as tears begin to well up in his eyes. He doesn't want his daughter to see the sadness in his eyes. And yet these words that he's telling her are just too painful for him to say without getting upset. He continues, "....wherever, I go, Abigail, sweetheart, just remember that you will always remain in my heart. Your Daddy will always......" He pauses again as he gets very choked up and almost cries in front of his daughter. But he uses all the emotional strength he has to say these final few words to her in as reassuring a manner as possible. "....Just remember, Abby, that I will always love you, now and forever. Don't ever forget that, Princess..." Jack can no longer continue saying this painful goodbye to his daughter. He gently grabs his daughter and gives her a hug. As he is hugging her, tears begin to stream down his cheek. He doesn't want to let go of his daughter. He cannot bear the thought of being separated from her again. Jennifer, who is sitting next to Jack, places her hand on Jack's back and tries to console him. She has tears in her eyes too as she watches Jack say his "goodbye" to Abby. After a minute, Jack stops hugging his daughter. He takes his hands and quickly wipes the tears off his face.
In an effort to make his daughter feel secure and happy, he puts a big reassuring smile on his face and says, "You must be so hungry, Abby. But I have a VERY BIG surprise for you!! Mommy prepared a very special breakfast for three of us. And guess what she made?"
"Pancakes!!!!" Abby screams with delight.
Jack laughs, "Right!! Pancakes!!! How about the three of us go on over to the dining room table so you can eat that very special breakfast?"
"Okay, Daddy!!" Abby says, with a huge smile on her face.
Jack takes Abby's hands and they head to the table for their "special" breakfast. As much pain as Jack is feeling right now over the thought of being separated from his daughter, he cannot help but smile as he sees the look of happiness on his precious daughter's face. He is determined to make these moments with Abby as special as possible.....
After their breakfast is finished, the schoolbus arrives to take Abby to school. Jack cannot say another long "goodbye" to his daughter. It's just too painful for him. So as he walks with her towards the door, he says with a smile on his face, "Have a good day at school, sweetheart. And don't forget that your Daddy loves you."
"I love you too! Goodbye, Daddy!" Abby kisses him on the side of his cheek. Jennifer, who is standing nearby, bends down to give Abby a goodbye hug. After the hug, Abby walks towards the bus, which is parked directly in front of the house. She is completely happy and oblivious to all the worries that her parents are feeling about the trial -- the trial which is set to begin in less than an hour.
As Jack watches his daughter walk towards the bus, tears start to fill his eyes. Now that she has left, he can finally release some of the intense and painful sadness he is feeling over the possibility that he may be separated from her and Jennifer again. Jennifer, sensing Jack's pain, gives him a warm and reassuring hug. "Everything will be alright, Jack. You'll see....."
