Katie was born on December 18th, 1978 in Toledo, Ohio. She is the youngest
of five sisters, born to her father, a lawyer, and her mother, a homemaker.
She is currently 19 years old and is living by herself in Wilmington, North
Carolina. She has been accepted into Columbia University but has taken a
year off to do Dawson's Creek.
At first, WB offered her the role of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. All she
had to do was get her GED and start work right away. She passed, and
decided to finish school instead. She got her start with a small role in
Ang Lee's The Ice Storm playing Libbets Casey. The film, which won the
screenplay award from the Cannes Film Festival, stars Kevin Kline,
Sigourney Weaver, Elijah Wood and Joan Allen and depicts the sexual
revolution of the 1970's. After her role in "The Ice Storm" Katie got
back with the WB network, and caught the eye of Kevin Williamson, who cast
her in role of Joey Potter. Even though Katie chose to stay home and act
in her school's play "Damn Yankee's" as opposed to show up in person for
audition. But, obviously she landed the past anyway, which is based on Kevin
Williamson's real life friend named Fanny with whom he had a similar relationship
with that of Dawson and Joey. Between the 1st and 2nd seasons of Dawson's Creek,
Katie is filming 3 movies, "Disturbing Behavior", "Go" and "Killing Ms. Tingle"
(which is directed by Wiliamson).
