Mesa Verde, Colorado is the site of some of the most amazing of the Anasazi ruins... the spectacular cliff dwellings, built into alcoves in the cliffs of the canyons. This is the only one of the major cliff dwellings that you can explore independently of a guided tour. In the foreground of this structure is one of the many Kivas (ceremonial sunken rooms) that are found throughout the Anasazi villages, as well as many of the modern Pueblo Indian cultures.
