Memo

[bullet] Hello Everyone,
[bullet] We all had an experience or two with Fran in September. There was, as everyone knows, a lot of wide spread damage in and around our area. I would like to extend my thanks to the people that helped with the amateur radio effort. There were many dedicated amateurs that answered the call for help. We as a group sent more than 200 pieces of traffic, in Franklin county during the event itself. After the event there were many that helped with the efforts to get people the basic necessities of life. I feel proud to be a part of such a group of people.

[bullet] On October 26, Saturday, the Franklin county ARES group will be getting together to do some signal testing, at various locations within the county. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend. The meeting will be from 9:00am to 12:00am. We realize that everyone is busy and don't want to take too much of there day. I personally think it will be fun and educational at the same time. It would be helpful, if you plan to attend, to bring any equipment you may have that could be used in our effort.

Hope to see you there and 73 everyone,
Chuck Britton AE4XJ

Memo

[bullet]Greetings:
[bullet] I must apologize for the delays of getting out our bulletins. It’s that time of the year and everyone is busy, and that includes yours truly. We are still looking for volunteers to assist with ARES. We need net control stations, field officers, Assistant Net Control Managers and liaison stations. Please remember that you do not have to be a member of any club, group or a member of the ARRL to be a part of ARES. It is for anyone who wishes to help their community in a time of disaster or emergency. All that is required is that you have an FCC Amateur License and a desire to help.

[bullet]It is time to start planning for the Simulated Emergency Test. The SET for this year is October 12-13. We will be discussing the SET on the ARES Net on Tuesdays at 9:00 PM. Please check into the net and get the latest on ARES in Franklin Co. The SET (s) will give us an idea of how well we are prepared for the real thing so let’s get as much participation as we can muster.

[bullet]As most of you know Skywarn is going through some changes. We all need to support those who lend their time, energy and equipment to make Skywarn possible. The National Weather Service depends on Skywarn to be able to issue warnings, watches and reliable data to the public. If you see weather conditions that match the criteria that they are asking, please report it to the net control or to the NWS via telephone.

[bullet]It’s hurricane season, so be ready for bad weather both here and in the communities on the coast that may need our assistance. The gurus of weather predict that we may have more than normal in quantities of these phenomena this year. Thanks to all those that helped with the field day events from both the TERA and the FCARC. It was quite a success.

[bullet]Thank you for your support and efforts for ARES

Sincerely,
KE4WZY Pat Gorman

Memo

[bullet]Greetings,
[bullet]April has come and gone and I have finally got off my duff and to begin setting up our training and organization. Let me begin with the announcement that we are going to begin on the air training on the 145.110 repeater on a regular basis. I would like some input from the members as to how often and when they would like to meet. I feel that at least once weekly in the beginning would be quite sufficient but if the members have a preference please let me know. This will be discussed both on the air and at the FCARC meeting on May 6, 1996.

[bullet]I am also looking to reorganize our operation and will discuss this on the air during one of our first meetings.

[bullet] Please feel free to discuss these items with me on the air or on the phone if you wish. We have a good group of operators that have proven capable of handling emergency situations very effectively and we are very proud of each one of you. I am looking forward to working with each one of you.

Sincerely,
KE4WZY Pat Gorman
