![]() Songsan Sunrise Peak on the eastern end of Cheju Island protrudes into the sea, rising high in the sky. There is a plateau like basin which is the crater of an extinct volcano. This basin is surrounded by 99 various sized like a jaged fence. From a distance it looks like a place where a conjurer might reside. This basin covers an area of a littel over 64 acres, and it is one of the principal craters on Cheju Island which include Paeknoktam and Sangumburi. It is not easy to have such a lucky chance to see the scene of sunrising because of the whimsical weather, but if you can manage to see this sunrise, it will be one of the most mystical experiences you will have on Cheju Island. When we climb Songsan we seem to penetrate through the sound waves of the rolling ocean below and fleeing shadows of the night. Having climbed we concentrate our gaze upon the horizon of the East Sea, as the receding darkness of the early dawn changes slowly to ever deeper rosy hues until the sun like a ball of fire seems to rise out of the sea itself. This magnificent view forces us to stand in breathless owe before the glory of nature. | |
