Policies and Proccedures
It is very important that this session be conducted by an interested and knowledgeable person from the Human Resources department. Care should be taken that all P&P are explained in detail and simple language. Ideally, this is the time to distribute an employee's handbook if it exists.The following list, though long is not complete, and it should be reviewed by the Human Resources department for completeness. The list has been divided into two parts to better reinforce the concept of "obligations and benefits".
EMPLOYEE OBLIGATIONS
- Care of hotel property
- Locker room
- Employee transportation
- Employee entrance
- Time cards/ overtime
- Employee packages and bags/ search policy
- Wearing of Identification Card
- Use of hotel cafeteria
- Reporting of absence from work
- Leave of absences
- When you may be on the property and when you may not be
- Rules of Conduct
- Disciplinary action and written warnings
- Smoking on the job
- Threatening other employees
- Sabatoge or theft
- Confidential information
- Drinking of alcohol at work
- Reporting to work intoxicated
- Promotions
- Personal hygiene and presentation in the workplace
- Usage of the hotel telephones
- Probationary period
- Reporting of accidents, suspicious persons,or safety hazards.
- Payroll
- Contract system.
- The Paycheck; how often, where to receive, where to go if there is a problem or a question
- Explain the salary structure as it is and as is governed by the union; which level earns what salary
- Overtime/ timecard
- pay advances
- payroll deductions/ what they are and how each one is applied (fines for property misuse)
- Tip percentage ; where it comes from, how it is calculated, where the information is posted.
- Vacation pay
- Christmas bonus paychecks if any.
COMPANY BENEFITS
- To avoid any conflicts, it is recommended that this list be compiled by the Human Resources department. The types of items that could be mentioned; e.g., free meals during working hours/ uniforms and knives provided/ Christmas bonus check/hospital/ a paycheck that is good/ working for a company that is expanding.
