Internet Hoaxes, Viruses, more...
There are so many hoaxes, viruses, chain letters... going around. How
is a body to know whether something is true? One way is to check the
following sites. Hopefully, they have done the research for you.
Please don't pass on "rumors" without first verifying the information (as
best you can). These sites are not listed in any particular order.
I am sure there are many more sites, these are the ones I had in my bookmarks
without doing a special search.
McAfee Virus Hoaxes
This page is called the "Virus Information Library" - it has "the real things"
as well as the hoaxes.
Vmyths.com
About computer virus myths, hoaxes, urban legends, hysteria, and their implications.
Current Net Hoaxes
This site belongs to About.com (used to be The Mining Company). There
are four categories: hoax, urban legend, rumor, junk. There is a link
for each entry to give specific details.
Hoax warnings
This page deals with virus related hoaxes. If you know the "name" of
the virus, you can look it up directly. There is a list of "the latest
hoaxes".
Don't spread that Hoax!
This seems to be an individual's effort to help. It is well laid out
and interesting to explore. It mentions chain letter, urban legends,
viruses, product giveaways, government myths.
HoaxKill
I am not sure who is "doing" this site, but it is sponsored by a software
company. If you don't find what you are looking for, you can email
them and they say they will try to verify it.
If you have any other good sites, please email me - Thanks! barbolink@yahoo.com
