Dungannon 1-5 Larne: 18 Nov 1997
Larne made it 2-2 in wins on their fourth visit to Stangmore Park by coasting to an easy County Antrim Shield win against a Swifts team that finished with nine players on the pitch. Hammered 4-0 by the home side on their previous midweek trip to Tyrone for a Gold Cup tie, the visitors were a goal up after 12 minutes when Francie Harrison converted a penalty after a hand-ball offence that earned a red card for Tony Clarke. Swifts were level after 33 minutes, Gary Duke winning an ariel duel with goalkeeper Paul Miskelly from Conor Devine's left-wing corner. But Larne went back in front two minutes before the break, Alan Craig trying a cross-cum-shot that beat Gavin Cushley from the left sideline. The insurance goal came with 15 minutes left, teenager Sean Caddel outpacing Paul Trainor and crossing the ball for Peter Lowry to flick home. Ten minutes later, Ricky Caulfield passed the ball to Caddel, who rounded the goalkeeper and fired a shot through a ruck of defenders protecting the home net. And with three minutes to go, Caulfield completed the rout when he enticed Cushley from his line and drilled a low shot past the demoralised goalkeeper. Right at the end, Jeff Booth became the second Swifts player to see red, his offence apparently dissent directed at referee Davy Malcolm.
