"Coagh United from the Amateur League shocked First Division Larne
today with this fully deserved 2-0 win to book their place in the
next round. They had shocked the home side after just two minutes when former
Larne player Alan Boyd hammered in a McEnemy cross, but it was ruled
off-side. However, there was no disputing the goal which gave the amateurs the
lead after four minutes. A cross from Pattison on the left found leading scorer Murdock who
headed in to the top corner. The home side began to threaten midway through the half. Lowry's
cross picked up McMahon whose weak header was comfortably saved by
Hasson. Larne's best chance of the half fell to Lowry after 38 minutes but,
having been sent clear by Patton, he steered his shot wide of the
target. Larne, forced to take the game to Coagh, were struggling to find a
way through the solid visitors' defence. Looney did carve out an opening after 62 minutes but then shot tamely
at Hasson. Coagh extended their lead after 68 minutes. Dangerman Murdock skipped past Adair then sent in a low cross for
Boyd to add the finishing touch. Simms who had been pushed forward to join the Larne attack almost
pulled one back nine minutes from time but slipped as he lined up his
shot. Four minutes later Simms found the target with a thundering drive
from the edge of the box which Hasson did well to hold.
