What: Kathy Parker will talk about her experience as one of Georgia's delegates to the National Summit for Africa. There also will be an exhibition of Kenyan Art by the highly acclaimed Kamba artist Ancent Soi.

Films at Emory

“THE INSIDER” Tuesday, April 4 at 7:30 pm Harland Cinema, Dobbs University Center. Jeffrey Wigand (Russell Crowe) was a central witness in the lawsuits filed by Mississippi and other states against the tobacco industry which eventually were settled for $246 billion. Wigand, former head of research and development and a corporate officer at Brown and Williamson, was the ultimate insider. This film will be introduced by Eric Pevsner ‘98MPH, CDC Office of Smoking and Health.

“THE MAGIC BULLET” Wednesday, April 19 at 7:30 pm, Phyllis S. Alperin Auditorium, 1525 Clifton Road. Starring Edward G. Robinson, this 1940’s classic depicts one of the 20th centuries earliest public health breakthroughs - the discovery that arsenic could be used as an effective treatment against syphilis. Current experts will describe why at the dawn of the 21st century sexually transmitted diseases once again pose dire threats to society and what is being done to stop them.

Countries in Crisis: Issues for the Next Century

Countries in Crisis: Issues for the Next Century. Thursday, April 20, 2000. 7-8:30 p.m. What are the most pressing problems facing nations today? Representatives of nongovernmental organizations will discuss where we stand and concerns for the future. Panelists include Ajamu Baraka, director, Amnesty International, Southern Regional Office; Peter Herbert, regional director, International Rescue Committee; and Charles Costello and Dr. Jennifer McCoy, directors of the Democracy Program and the Latin America and Caribbean Program, respectively, at The Carter Center.
