Indicated are the animals that can be seen by bike and the accomodations:

  • Lake Bogoria, Kenia
    • Thousands or millions of flamingos, kudu, spitting-cobra, zebra, impala, buffalos on eastern lakeshore. Hot springs!

  • Hell's Gate National Park & Crater Lake & Lake Naivasha, Kenia
    • Zebra, impala, gazells, girafs, colobus-monkey, leopard, many buffalos, gnu, cliffspringer, ostrich, fish-eagle etc. Can be entered by foot or by bike.

  • Main road south of Nairobi towards Tanzania-border
    • All animals that can be encountered in the Amboseli and Massai Mara Game Reserve can be encountered here as well! Very little traffic on the road, and only some spread-out massai-villages around. Probably the best place where I've been to see big herds of animals.

  • Mikumi National Park, Tanzania, on the main road (leaving the road by bike not allowed!)
    • I've seen antilopes, zebras, warthogs, elephants, lions, giraffs, baboons, hippos, marabus etc. A very good place to see animals, too!
    • cheap hotels in Mikumi-village, restaurant + expensive accomodation "Mikumi Wildlife Lodge" inside the park (accessible by bike, it's worth to see the panoramic-view from there!)
  • Nyika-Plateau National park, Malawi
    • Elan-antilope, Kudu, leopard, zebra, bushbock etc.

  • Kariba, Zimbabwe
    • The only town of the world where you meet big animals like elephants, buffalos, waterbocks, zebras etc. between the houses! In the water: Hippos and crocodiles. Put your tent in the campground behind the Cutty Sark Hotel and you'll have big game walking around your tent in the night and elephants coming to the swimming-pool!

    • White rhinoceros (the world's only park you're allowed to enter by bike and meet rhinos!), leopard, sable antilope,

    • Cliffspringers, birds. I've even seen a caracal!

    • Birds, I've seen three various species of kingfishers! Just a few kilometers away there's a dolphin-lookout. Entering the National Park is only possible by canoe or by foot, not by bike!
