Kuwait Pictures
Some pictures that I had from my experences in Kuwait during the oil well fire fighting. I was in Kuwait from July 1991 to March 1992, I worked a 4 week on, 4 week off rotation at first then a 6 week on, 3 off as the well's were killed and work load lessened. Normal hours were five in the morning to eight at night. My company lost two employees early on to shifting winds and burning oil just before I arrived.
My first evening in Kuwait I heard gunfire and saw anti aircraft fire in the night sky! I had my passport and visa in hand ready to run. A buddy came in to the apartment and once told of the going's on simply replied " Cool, good night" and went into his room! Upon questioning the next morning it was explaned that it was just Thrusday night, the first evening of the weekend and all that I saw was "Happy Bullets". Once all the ammo was used up, the weekends would become peacefull again. Early on the day time sky was dark with oil smoke, as the wells were put out the sun shine drove the day time highs to 130 degrees and up! Any one experenced with living in the mid-east knows that water is stored on the roof tops in "Poly" tanks. What that leads to is no cool water until morning for bathing. Never had a cold shower the whole time, had to wait until ten at night to take one without fear of being scalded!
Me, the tough fire fighter! Looking for another well to kill.

Burning Well
 |
Another burning well, it was killed about 24 hours before but someone must have uncovered a hot spot that caused it to flare up once again, no one was hurt luckly. This well was assigned to Safety Boss to put out and us (Schlumberger) to kill.
