Scott Weinger
Aladdin
Brings a magical combination of conviction, comedy and drama
to Aladdin through the spirited speaking voice that he provides.
For Weinger, a longtime fan of animation, getting the part of Aladdin
was a wish come true. After several auditions in which he faced
some serious competition, he was selected by the directors on the
basis of his fresh, sincere and enthusiastic vocal quality.
For Aladdin supervising animator Glen Keane,, Weinger also
emboided the personality and vocal characteristics that he was
looking for to inspire his design and subsequent animation.
Linda Larkin
Princess Jasmine
Provides the delightful, daring and dramatic speaking voice
for the determined Princess of Agrabah.
For the talented actress, the experience of bringing an
animated character to life was a "magical experience"
and one of the highlights of her acting career. For Jasmine
supervising animator Mark Henn, Linda Larkin's voice
was a great inspiration and he tried to match her energy
and excitement in animating the character.
Gilbert Gottfried
Iago
Creates quite a flap as the voice of a obnoxious parrot who likes
to stick his beak where it doesn't belong. As for Iago supervising
animator Will Finn, Gilbert's voice really dictated what this
character was going to look like, specifically with the shut eyes,
large mouth and teeth showing all the time. The trick was to come
up with a caricature rather than make it look like Gilbert in a
parrot costume.
Lea Salonga
Princess Jasmine
Singing voice in "Aladdin"
Is the Tony Award-winning talent behind the sensational
singing voice of a beautiful Arabian Princess. Her soaring rendition
of "A Whole New World" , the Alan Menken-Tim Rice
ballad, is one of the film's musical highlights and is heard
as Princess Jasmine and Aladdin fall in love while taking
a romantic magic carpet ride. "A Whole New World" is a great
song.' -she says- 'And it's a dream come true to be part of a
Disney animated film. The challenge to doing this song was to try
and capture all the feelings and emotions in just a few minutes.
You've got to remember that moment will last forever and ever
on film, and you have to really do your best in that one shot."
Jonathan Brandis
Mozenrath
He's the voice of the Greatest Villain in the Aladdin TV Series.
The producers says:
"We picked Jonathan Brandis for the voice of Mozenrath because when we were casting about, he was on the cover of every teen magazine at
the Thrifty next door to the recording studio, so he seemed like a crassly commercial good choice. Jonathan was extremely
nervous, but very nice and down to earth, even though he was the teen idol of the moment when we recorded him. The voice
director and a few others were extremely wary of using him, because his tracks didn't sound like polished voice guy stuff. But that
was precisely why we liked them, they sounded fresh and weird. We wanted this guy to have a twisted appeal. "
