It
is believed that the origin of the Honey island's fauna is migratory, but
the possibility of eventual endemism is not excluded.
Only at the end of the
80's there was started an more detailed inventory of the island's animal
life. Up to now there were registered 20 species of reptiles, 153 bird
species, 24 species of land mammals. 7 species of sweet water fishes and
6 amphibians were observed.
10 species of sea mammals,
visitors and residents, have been reported up to now. Among the fauna of
the sea ground we can find beetles, amphipodes, isopodes, poliketts, bibalvae,
crustacean, and snails.
11 species from the
up to now known are threatened by extinction, not counting the sea turtles,
which use the island only for passage.
