Walk to the Fort

Parting from Praia do Farol, it takes between 1 and 1 1/2 h to reach the Fort. There are two possibilities to get there, or along the beach or along a path through the forest, the "Caminho da Figueira". The last one should be used when water is too high to walk along the beach.
After having visited the fort, you should climb the Morro da Baleia, where there is an old military labyrinth. The sight from there is beautiful, you can see a big part of the Ilha do Mel and also the Ilha das Peças.
At the foot of the hill there is a little cavern, but it is a bit difficult to get there. Or you have to cross a little river or take a very, very steep path.
 
 

The Trilha do Belo

Close to the pier starts a very beautiful path, called Trilha do Belo (belo = beautiful). First you walk across the bushy restinga and reach the Praia do Belo. It is a small beach with a sandy part, stones and mangroves around it. The water is very calm and not deep. Returning, you get the path to Praia Grande. Suddenly, vegetation changes and you walk in a dense submontane ombrophilous forest.
 

Trip to Encantadas

This trip takes about 3 hours, starting at Praia do Farol. YOu pass by some beaches, the Praia Grande, praia do Miguel, praia de Fora, cross the Morro de Sabão (Soap Hill, which proves to be true when it rains...) and stones.  
You have to take care with tide, it is difficult or impossible to cross the stones with flood.
In Encantadas you can visit the grotto, where used to live a mermaid who enchanted sailors.
If you are too tired to return by foot, you can hire a boat in Encantadas and pass along the continent oriented side of the island.

The Lighthouse

It is quite easy now to climb the lighthouse hill, since there was constructed a stair. You have a beautiful sight of various beaches and the place where the island is separating. Besides the lighthouse is a house which looks historic, but it isn't. It was constructed in 1996 when there was done some filming.
