Lusec yawned and stretched her muscles as she strolled outside the barracks early in the morning at Aden Weyr. The crisp air felt good reminding her of home.

As usual, thoughts of home brought on thoughts of her brother Vinosec, now V'sec. Just sevenday past he had impressed a large handsome midnight blue dragon, named Metreth, from Talor Cliff Weyr. She'd witnessed the whole event curtsy of the blue rider Nora who'd managed to wake her and pull her from her bed in the dead of night to take her to the impression.

Lusec sighed, she envied V'sec in his impression. True she knew it wasn't the best of things but she also knew that she'd been waiting for the same thing to happen to her longer than her brother. On her shoulder her bronze fire lizard, Fethos, chirped apologetically, projecting images of himself being a dragon to make her happy.

"No, no, Fethos," she chuckled, patting the mischievous bronze on the head, "You're hearts in the right place but girls don't ride bronzes." The bronze chirped once again at the platinum haired girl rubbing his head against her cheek.

The morning sounds of bulging dragons started up finally and Lusec gave a slightly discussed sigh, rolling her eyes skyward. She'd best head towards the kitchens. It had been the Weyrleaders' and the Headwoman's idea to have her working in there during the time she'd be waiting to impress. She'd be close to the eggs so she might know as easily as the other candidates when they'd hatch, yet she'd also be under watchful eyes that would keep her from considering to play a joke on the weyrfolk and dragons by finding a way to steal an egg.

Truthful, Lusec had given up her ways of stealing… least in the way of stealing and keeping the items she stole. She now used her thieving skills as practical jokes. There had been one time that a bluerider from Fort was making a visit for the Weyrwoman there. He was an artist and had brought along what he called his lucky paintbrush. He seemed to not be loose enough to Lusec so she stole the paintbrush. It wasn't until dinner that night that the bluerider realized that Lusec had been the thief. With a flick of her wrist she'd given it back to him. He seemed to have loosened up by that time and said something about keeping an eye out for her from now on.

A brassy trumpet was what knocked Lusec back into reality. After living in the Weyr now for nearly two months she recognized the Weyrleader's bronze's voice well. It was a happy excited sound. Then the ground seemed to move and Lusec looked for a moment generally surprised and confused. She quickly hid the look and tilted her head slightly. Soon the vibrating ground was explained as the humming of dragons around the Weyr was evident.

Seemingly out of instinct, the 18 turn old girl dashed for the barracks. As she entered the other girls who were to stand at the clutch were already half dressed and some out the door. Lusec was quick to find her robe and shucked it on slipping on a pair of, some how, over sized sandals. Her sandals smacking on the floor she raced to the sands with the other candidates giving a curt nod to each that made eye contact with her. Being a thief prior to being searched she hadn't been the best received into the group of perspective dragonriders.

Lusec came to a screeching halt behind all the other candidates. Her tall frame 6'3" frame allowed her to see over the heads of the other female candidates. She looked up at Anissimoth, from the first day that she'd seen the queen she'd been awe struck by her. Yet, as Lusec was she never showed it but the first time. She gave a nod in respect to the queen though she was sure that the Sr. Queen wasn't even looking at her.

Her attention was turned to the eggs as the shattering sound of an egg caught her ear. A bronze! That's a good luck sign! This will be a stron… Oh, that had to hurt Lusec thought admirably until the bronze tripped on his own tail. What a klutz!… Ah, but he's still a strong one. She smiled as Rydain helped the bronze and call out his name; Saragath.

As the impression was made the eggs started rocking more energetically. Three eggs burst open spilling two blues and a brown. Lusec raised an eyebrow as the blues headed for the girls while their brother went for the boys. It didn't totally surprise her that the blues were heading for the girls, it was far from not heard of that a female rode a blue; after all Nora rode Mitanth. The first blue, larger, blue blundered over with his slightly smaller brother following.

The first blue tripped coming up one of the dunes and got his tail tangled with his feet. What is this, a clutch of klutzes? Lusec chuckled to herself as the blue fell over only to be caught in the arms of Aidana. Lusec only barely hear the wavy haired girl call out the blue's name to be Futruth. She was instead watching the lightly colored handsome blue who had cocked his head in curiosity at the impression of his brother. He turned his eyes back to the girls and they looked back at him.

She flipped the hair in front of her right eye over her shoulder, feeling the scar that was left from the thread score two turns back. If I get a green, perhaps we'll let her clutch a few times and then flame that shardin' stuff that nearly caused me to become blind in one eye It was at that moment that the blue decided to strode forward suddenly. Lusec watched as he seemed to be sure of foot, unlike his other brothers, and looked determined as did the feel his feet touching the ground that the tremors gave off.

Why wait until after a clutch to flame that thing? Besides, no green's worthy of you! Lusec heard in her head. She didn't look about, unsure if it was just her conscious or something else; it had sounded like her… a bit more manly though. Lusec then realized that her eyes had unfocussed as the last few girls before her let the blue through. She made no facial features yet stayed completely still. Let me introduce myeself, I am Evinadath. Do you agree that we will fight thread together, bluerider Lusec? Lusec let all of her composure slip as the blue stood before her stating this question. She grew wide-eyed and she only managed to with hold a girlish giggle.

"Yes, Evinadath," she smiled, "We will fight thread, you and I." She put out her hand and gently yet firmly scrached his eyeridge. Oh, and by the by, not all of my clutchmates are klutzes… Just the first two to impress. there seemed to be a smugness in the blue's voice at the statement that finally made his rider laugh heartily. I figured as much Nada… I just thought it was pretty odd that the first two would be a bit klutzy, ya' know? The blue nodded his head in his determined way. Now I must eat, it's very hungry work braking out of that shell. And I will feed you, love. Com'on. Putting a loving hand on her blue she proudly walked off the sands ignoring all other impressions being made. The duo walked towards the kitchen where the other two hatchlings before them had headed with their riders.

Lusec couldn't help but continue to touch Evinadath, afraid that he might disappear or that this might be a dream or a cruel joke. This is no joke, Lu, I am yours and you are mine. Nothing will change that. I know, love… it's still just the most interesting thing to happen to me in a long time. Evinadath cooed understandingly. As they entered the kitchen they found the bronze and blue who’d impressed earlier. Oh, don’t give me that, Lusec’s the best. No one’s better… so what if she was a thief, she’s more skilled than either of your boundeds. Lusec looked confused for a moment then chuckled giving her blue’s head a hug.

“You’ll never let somebody say a thing bad about me will you?” she asked Evinadath and the blue nodded in his determined way. That I will. No one will get away with bad mouthing my rider without hearing from me. As long as you only berate them by bespeaking them and perhaps showing your anger without touching them. Unless they try to harm you I will not harm them… Can we eat now? the blue ended on a cooing note. Lusec chuckled and lead the fair sized blue to one of the bins of meat. With a fold away knife she always had on her, Lusec made sure each piece of meat was cut small enough so Evinadath would not choke.

Fethos chirped on Lusec’s shoulder and looked at the food in a devious way. Evinadath looked at his smaller, yet older, cousin a gave a sort of belch in response. The bronze chitter irritably on the platinum haired girl’s shoulder because of the insult, causing Lusec to chuckle. If you wish to eat some little cousin, eat. I’m sure you won’t take enough to make me not full. Fethos looked wearily at his large, young, blue cousin and with a nod from Lusec he dropped down on the barrel of meat and started to eat.

As the blue ate, like all dragonets, the meat soon started to show slightly through his skin. As his skin seemed to pucker out, Evinadath reached one of his hind legs up to scratch an area. Lusec was quick to notice this and rubbed at the area her blue was about to take his claw to. Would you like your first oiling, love? If that means I won’t itch as much, very much so, please!

Lusec ducked down to pick up the small tub of dragon oil that had been provided. It was then that she noticed all the people visiting with the newly impressed dragonriders. She knew her parents couldn’t come because of the livestock they had to watch so she didn’t even look through the crowd to see if she could spot their faces. For a moment she looked around hopefully for her brother yet frowned as she remembered he wasn’t able to come because of his new lifemate. You miss your brother, Lu? the blue crooned at her. Lusec only nodded. She could feel Evinadath searching her mind, it almost seemed to tickle as he did so. She then felt him grow determined again with a grin.

Well we can at least tell him of your good fortune. He impressed to blue Metreth, did he not? Lusec smiled at the blue before her. I will inform him of our joys… He can also hear us all? Metreth?… Yes I just hatched… Thank you… Can your rider hear me?… V’sec I have good news to convey to you. Your sister has been impressed by me, blue Evinadath… He congratulates you, Lusec… Oh, make that us. He believes it is very good fortune that both you and he impress blues. Tell him I miss him. We’ll meet up again when we’re able to fly and go between The blue draognet nodded mentally and repeated the message word for word to the other blue pairing.

The Weyrling Master is calling them now, they will talk or write us again soon… V’sec says he misses you too. Thanks, Nada! she grinned and planted a kiss on he snout. The blue purred at her and Lusec returned to doing what she’d find most of her days to consist of, oiling her blue dragon.
