S'qual smacked his lips sleepily not really noticing the snout that was continually being pushed into his back. Come now, rider mine, I'm hungry and it is time to get up. S'qual rolled over and opened one eye lazily. They suddenly snapped open.
"Sorry 'bout that, love," S'qual smiled softly and reached out to hug his brown who immediately move into the embrace, "I keep on waking up thinking that perhaps the hatching was a dream." Do I look like a dream, rider mine? the brown asked in a voice that was only slightly deeper than S'qual's own.
"Not at all," he smiled giving his dragon a kiss on the snout, "and if this is a dream I hope it never ends." Do not worry, it is not a dream and our bond will never end. Even in death. S'qual smiled and hugged his brown tightly once again before getting up and slipping on a pair of pants. "I guess you want food as well, ya' glutton?" S'qual asked putting out a hand in a friendly gustier. Hotary trilled lovingly and hopped over to the edge of the bed. Daftly she opened her wings and launched herself off the cot landing lightly on her master's hand, careful not to claw him. S'qual raised his arm so that it was horizontal to the weyr floor and the green walked her way up to her usual perch on his shoulder. We go? We go. S'qual comfirmed. Fargrinth bulged loudly causing his rider to cover his ears and perhaps wake up a number of other riders still asleep. The brown started out of the weyr, his rider wiggling a finger in his ear as he followed, while the fire lizard chittered happily. Food. Food. Food! the brown's voice filtered through S'qual's head causing him to laugh. You sound like you just hatched. I sounded nothing like this when I hatched and you know it! Fargrinth argued back happily. Hotary gave her own sort of budge before flitting over to the brown's head and landed on him. Can't see can't see! Hotary get off… OUCH! Fargrinth! S'qual yelped mentally as his beloved brown fell on his face, curtsy of on green set of fire lizard claws over his eyes. S'qual was quickly by his brown's side checking him everywhere. "Are you hurt, Grin?" S'qual asked stroking the young, large brown's head. I'm fine, my rider. I'm still not very graceful. You may think that but you are the most graceful dragon on all of Pern as far as I'm concerned. The brown cooed back placing his head on his rider's chest. Already his head was as big as the teen's torso so it was a pretty full head rub. "Come on, love," S'qual chuckled, "Up on your feet, we still have to feed you." Hotary chittered reprovingly at her master in the air where she'd taken refuge when the brown tripped over his own strong tail. "You don't sit on his head like that again or I won't feed you." The little green crooned in her way of apology. S'qual chuckled and plucked the green from the air and placed her on his shoulder. Hotary you are a bottle of trouble! the brown snorted though his voice was full of laughter. The little green shuffled from claw to claw looking for all the world a bit sheepish. The brown walked taller and cafefuly placed one claw in front of the other as he got up. He carefully folded his wings and tucked them tightly to his back.
Half way through the day S'qual and Fargrinth were at the weyrlake giving the brown a good wash. This is nice… Why do we do this again? Because it's a good way to keep clean and keep you from itching as much. That and your hide looks even better when it's oiled because your body was clean when I apply the oil. The brown nodded as Hotary scrubbed diligently at the brown's withers. "Now for the oil," he smiled as he swiped a dry cloth over his brown's shoulder. As S'qual bent to dip the cloth in the dragon oil a shrill trumpet was issued behind him. Hello, Nomikoth. bellowed back as S'qual turned around to see Nagie and her green Nomikoth. He could tell, even from that fair distance, that once again Nagie was going to have to wash Nomikoth again and try to oil the happy green who was shaking her head at Fargrinth's answering call. "Poor girl," S'qual chuckled as he turned back to his own dragon and started to rub the oil into Fargrinth's soft hide. Her rider's been at that for at least two hours already. My sister has to learn to calm herself some. Nagie needs that sometimes too, S'qual agreed and shook his head. It would probably be interesting, to say the least, living around Nagie for another two turns. He just hoped he wouldn't get yelled at too much.
