Vinosec lifted one foot and then switched as she watched his fellow candidates impress one after another. All colors went by him, and slowly his excitement started to turn to disappointment. He could hear the words of each dragon as they passed, but not one seemed to even give him much more than a glance. By the time there were three eggs left, Vinosec was feeling lower than his 6' 6" stature. Now we streach the old wings, a layed back and seemingly tired voice came into Vinosec's head. The boy's head shot up sharply at this and he looked about... there were no dragonets on the sands anymore, all that was left were the three eggs, the dam, and the sire of the clutch. The three eggs started to shake and then suddenly one of the large brown sized eggs broke on the sides. The 19 turn old blinked and rubbed his eyes. There sticking out of the shell, and upside-down no less, were not the wings of a brown but of a deep, midnight blue; Mekoth cooed questionably at the egg. Alright, that sorta worked. the voice seemed to chuckle and Vinosec heard a sigh come from the egg. Amazingly the sigh generated enough effort to demolish the rest of the egg.
Uh, I'll be with you in a moment, Vinosec, the blue told his rider as he slide up to the green with sly look in his eyes. Hey, Desiath, you're looking ravishing this night, why don't we curl… "Metreth," Vinosec chided his dragon as he came up from behind, "You're too young to even think of that. Com'on food's more important right now." I almost have her twirled around my claw and you have to interrupt me with food? It was then that hunger pangs hit both dragon and rider. The blue still undecided looked from the green to his rider, back to the green and then finally settled on his rider with green and yellow whirling eyes. I can go after her later, it's not like she'll be gone, eh? You're right there… ya' still shouldn't be thinking of such things. You only hatched a minute ago and you're already trying to wean your way into a mating flight that won't happen for another two turns! the blue just grinned. As they walked off the sands together Vinosec was amazed at all the new riders already feeding their lifemates, 24 of them in all. And we shall make it 25, my rider… what will we call you now, Vin? Vinosec looked surprised as his huge blue already and looked deep enough into his memories to find that his nickname among family and friends was Vin. "Well, I guess I'll be called V'sec," he smiled. Metreth nodded with his sly looking eyes in approval. "Vin!" a female voice called from behind and the young man was nearly tackled by his 18 turn old sister, "I almost had some doubts when there were only three left on the sands, this is so cool!" V'sec was surprised to see his sister at the grounds and gave her a hug. Am I going to be feed or aren't I…? You could always introduce me to her too. the blue crooned folding his wings to his back neatly. V'sec chuckled and put an arm around his sister's shoulder. "Lusec, I'd like you to meet, Metreth, my lifemate and the most handsome blue in all of Pern!" Lusec chuckled and scratched the blue's eye ridge. "Guess he has to be handsome to keep up with you, bro," she smiled messing up his hair and causing him to blush. Metreth cooed his smooth way before receiving food from his embarrassed rider. "I'm not a looker, sis," he stated firmly and she giggled. Waving something in front of her brother's face he winced. There in his thieving sister's grasp was a small sketch and writing pad made from the rare paper Avias taught the Woodcrafters to make. Lusec leafed through the first few pages and grinned. "Most of these girls sketched here I saw eyeing you during the whole hatching," she smiled and her bronze fire lizard Fithos chirped in agreement, "My brother the stud, now that's and interesting thing." "Give me that!" V'sec grumbled swiping the notebook out of his sister's grasp. Lusec chuckled and held her hands behind her back in a playful way. "Pick one," she stated, her brown eyes dancing. V'sec looked at her in all seriousness but complied by picking the left. With a smile, Lusec produced an egg from behind her back. Not just any egg, but a fire lizard egg. "It's a present from Ma an' Pa. They wanted to be here but were held back by the snow storm in the North. They had a feeling that they wouldn't be able to get here for the hatching so sent this to me to give to you. The note said it was from Dawn Sisters Weyr." "Isn't that were your Fithos was from?" V'sec asked. His sister nodded daftly with a grin and flicked some of her shoulder length white hair out of her face only to have it fall back into place once again to cover her thread scar over her eye. Gingerly the slightly older teen relieved his sister of the egg. He looked at it quizzically; unlike dragon eggs, you couldn't get much of an idea of what color fire lizard was inside the shell. "Thank you." Metreth sniffed the egg curiously. It's not food is it? the blue asked a bit disappointed. "No it isn't, Metreth," V'sec chuckled before putting the egg safely inside a pocket stitched into his candidate robe. Quickly V'sec started to feed his dragon once again, only barely noticing Lusec telling him she'd see him at the meal.
V'sec yawned. It had already been two sevendays since the hatching of Metreth and he was beat. Why his dragon would wake him up so early in the morning was beyond him. V'sec! The egg! The egg! It's going to hatch! "There are no eggs on the sand since you hatched, Metreth, you're dreaming of females again, aren't you." V'sec was suddenly tossed out of his bed. Do you want to impress your present from your parents or not? The brown eyed boy blinked; being so tired he'd failed to realize that Metreth was talking about the fire lizard egg.
Acting quickly the bluerider scooped up the tiny gold and started to feed her. Ten minutes later the little gold's belly was visibly full of the food she had received and now lay in the crook of V'sec's arm fast asleep. What shall you name the little queen? Metreth asked in his laid back way. "Wecos," was all the bluerider replied as he walked to his bed and once again fell asleep with a happy grin. A large blue dragon and a tiny gold flit, this was a lucky thing for sure.
