VALIANT COMICS

Distribution via Newsstand

NEWSSTAND EDITIONS

Beginning just before Christmas 1994, Acclaim Comics began experimenting with selling comics via Newsstand Outlets. Initially they released only special products to the newsstand (such as mini-series) but ultimately expanded this to include the entire universe of titles. (note: Different outlets had different needs and limited space for comics so a store might have Solar Man of the Atom, X-O Manowar and Bloodshot but might not Turok Dinosaur Hunter, Magnus Robot Fighter or Ninjak. Finding all of the "newsstand" editions might therefore necessitate a visit to several outlets.) Most of the newsstand editions are identical to the "Direct Market" editions except that the bar code area is marked "Newsstand Sales".

An exception to the above "sameness" is the first newsstand book, Visitor Vs. Valiant Universe #1, which differed from the Direct Market Edition in three ways. First it had a "normal" cover versus the "card stock" of the Direct Market edition. Second it was cover priced at $2.50 versus $2.95 for the Direct Market edition. Finally it had a UPC Bar Code obscuring the "Why Must He Die?" portion of the Direct Market cover.

The Newsstand Edition of Visitor Vs. The Valiant Universe #2 was also minus the cardstock cover and price forty-five cents less than the Direct Market edition.

A third (and thus far final) exception book is Destroyer #0. Like VisVsValU #2, the Newsstand version did not have the Card Stock Cover and was priced forty-five cents less than the Direct Market Edition.

Note: a "variant" of Bloodshot #31 exists where eight pages were left out of the book at the printer. This is hardly a collectable (anyone can open the staples and pull pages out of any book!) but beware if you are buying a "Newsstand" copy of Bloodshot #31 and make sure that the book is complete.
