Worldgate Armaments
Worldgate Armaments is the only corporation operating off of Wormwood(TM), the living planet. They offer two lines of weapons, armor and vehicles that are made primarily of mucous resin, one is technological and the other is techno-wizardry(TM). They are one of the foremost techno-wizard(TM) corporations in this part of the Megaverse(TM), and make a huge variety of products.
Gate Arms, as it is usually called, was started half a decade ago by the remnants of an interdimensional mercenary unit called the War Corps. The War Corps had accidentally become involved in a war with the demon horde of Hades, and had barely escaped total destruction by fleeing through a rift.
They popped out in the middle of the Worldgate dimensional bazaar. Only a few dozen of the once-great company had survived the ill-fated war in Hades, and their vehicles were too badly damaged for them to go anywhere. The mercenaries could no longer support themselves, and the Corps dissolved.
They probably would have stayed dissolved, if it hadn't been for one of the remaining officers, a brilliant young Trimadore (see Coalition War Campaign(TM) for details on the Trimadore race) named Klay, who learned of Wormwood(TM)'s natural resin tubes and the usefulness of the mucous resin, and conceived of a plan to bring the scattered company members back together.
Through the War Corps' many assignments, they had picked up many rare alien vehicles, weapons, and pieces of equipment, and during a recent mission, they had shut down a prosperous munitions factory on an advanced world and had escaped with the plans to the factory's line of machines. If they could set up a factory, utilizing Wormwood(TM)'s subterranean magic veins, angel hair, symbiotic organisms, stones, and creatures, resin vents, and the living planet itself, they could begin to produce the advanced weapons their company (and most other mercenary units) depend on. Wormwood(TM) had no native industry, and had to import everything from other worlds, so there would be no planetary competition, and the other worlds in the star system were rich in mineral resources that could be gated to Worldgate.
Klay located a new resin vent in the vicinity of the Northern Mountains, and hired many priests and wormspeakers to cap the vent and divert the resin into huge underground reservoirs. A giant cavern was hollowed out, and was restructured into a factory and resin processing facility, with living machines formed from the walls and some mundane components cast from resin and metals. Dimensional gates were set up to the other worlds in Wormwood's star system, and small mining bases were set up to gather raw ore, with was gated back to the factory to be processed. Techno-wizardry(TM) machines, drawing on the natural ambient energy and supplementing it with power drawn from magic crystals and blood stones helped shape the cast resin, and joined the resin shells with their internal components, most of which were formed of metal.
After nearly a year of construction and preparation, the factory produced its first finished product, a line of clothing made from woven angel hair. After a few more weeks, the first of Gate Arms' line of military equipment rolled off the assembly line.
In the half a dozen years that followed, Worldgate Armaments became an important transdimensional corporation. They have constructed a number of other subterranean factories, which employ most of the old members of the War Corps. There is even talk of funding a new War Corps, equipped with Gate Arms weapons and operating out of Worldgate. It could happen within the next couple of years, or it might never happen. It all depends.
