DESCRIPTION:
Through no fault of his own, Garth looks like a thief. He's short, thin,
and figdety, with shifty little eyes, and a smarmy crooked smile. He
speaks with a soft nasal voice except when he's angry or frightened when
his voice becomes a cracked whine. He just carries an unshakeable
criminal demeanor. Of course it probably doesn't help that he could take
better care of his appearance. Perhaps if he shaved more often and
combed his hair and didn't slouch so much... Despite this he can speak
with a glib and convincing tongue when he wants to and is quick to pick
up on the feelings and desires of others.
PERSONALITY:
First off, Garth is no thief. He prefers the term Professional
Adventurer. Every group of stalwart heroes needs someone who can scout
ahead for danger, check for traps, pilfer items from or spy on an enemy,
and so on. Garth is an asset to any group and he has worked hard to
become so. Anyone calling him a thief gets an incriminating look and
total indignance. Because he's not. Really! He wants to be good, he
really does. It's just that he's tempted so easily. He wants to be good,
but he also wants to be wealthy. It's not his fault the two goals are
often at cross purposes, is it? So maybe he's taken a few things that
didn't exactly belong to him but he's never taken anything from someone
that couldn't live without it, and he's never ripped off a friend.
HISTORY:
Garth's father was a cobbler and always wanted Garth to follow in his
footsetps. He insisted Garth learn an honest trade instead of sneaking
about all the time. But Garth had a yearning for bigger things. He wanted
to see the world and have riches and wealth and luxury. He saw his
natural stealth and quickness as way to accomplish this. He became
friendly with the local Thieves' Guild and soon was accepted as a member.
The leader of the guild was a grizzled old veteran named Remy who had
seen and done everything there was to see and do, and been everywhere
there was to go. He knew all the tricks and ins and outs of the being a
thief. He was Garth's hero and Garth was his best student. The two came to
respect each other and were great friends. At least that's the way Garth
tells it. And that's the truth. Remy was in no way a harsh and abusive
teacher. Remy never forced his boys to hand over evrything they could
steal and then supply them with barely enough to survive in return. Never
did Remy beat the boys for standing up for themselves or not bringing in
a large enough haul. And Garth definitely did not sneak into his master's
room, steal a bag of gold and run off in the middle of the night. Nope,
it all happened just the way Garth says it happened.
MISCELLANEOUS... Quirks, Habits, etc...
Garth hates dogs. He hates cats more. Rats, he feels are misunderstood,
filthy disgusting creatures though they are... He drums his fingers when he's bored. When he's being tempted by
something (which happens quite often) or when he's hatching a plan he
rubs his lips.
