Dead End

Turn Eleven: Dead End

Garth's voice is heard, "Uh.. Aan, Why don't you go check out the well."

Gregory looks at the well and says, "If the fire came from a natural source it should be safe to enter the room since there is no smoke coming from the well. Of course, the fire might not have been natural, but there is only one way to find out. However, I think we need to get an idea of where we are before we investigate the well, so I think I will see if I can get the window open and take a look around." Gregory then heads for the window, veering away from the well.

Adriena says, "May I suggest we keep ourselves organized? Malis and I can examine the well, Garth and Aan can search the walls, floor, and ceiling for any hidden exits or niches, and Ganthanor and Gregory can keep guard. We should be able to move quickly, and I think we should. The hour grows late."

Gregory replies, "This sounds like a good plan. I will help Ganthanor keep an eye out for trouble as soon as I get a look outside. I also think the well should be left alone."

Ganthanor nods his head and then positions himself by the door and waits for the others to finish searching the room.

Following Adriena's advice Garth goes about checking the windows and walls of the room, keeping a close eye on the party in case one of them decides to open the well cover. Garth is particularly curious about what is behind the shutters. Approaching the shutters he notices that they are made of wood, but he can't figure out how they are closed; they are of excellent woodscraftship. Garth pulls out a dagger with the intent to pry the shutters open to get a look outside.

Then Aanparon says to Adriena, "Milady, if you would like to check out the well, might I suggest you allow me to remove the cover first. Checking things like this is really what Garth and I do best." That said Aanparon begins moving to the covered well.

Adriena quickly responds to Aan, "_Wait_ just a moment Aan, please. I intend to examine it as it is, first. This was no normal fire that scorched the room so badly, I'm sure. We are in the home of the most powerful War Wizard of these lands. There is no telling what she has in there and _we_ look like orcs. Those orcs back in yonder room were burnt pretty bad. I'll wager that this well is the cause of their death. I do not wish for our journey to end before it is begun. DO you see what I'm getting at?"

Aan refrains from touching the cover. Instead he steps back and lets Adriena do as she wishes.

Adriena pauses and looks around the room, she notices that the shutters are made entirely of wood, and can not really tell if/how they are secured. Upon examining the well, which is sunken into the floor, cover she does not see any obvious latches. The cover is made out of metal, with no runes on it to explain what it is nor are there any scorch marks on the covering. She notices that the burn/scorch marks extend in a 5ft radius from the well in every direction.

Adriena then moves to the well to get a closer look at the covering, not noting anything of particular interest. She then checks the walls to see if they have any soot but is disappointed to find that they don't have any soot but are merely blackened.

Adriena says shyly, "I don't find anything interesting for us about the 'well', sorry. I do feel there is a connection between the burnt orcs and this burnt room, but I can offer you no substantial proof - it is merely speculation. Let's get out of here. That well frightens me." With that Adriena heads for the door and goes into the main hall, leaving the others to do what they will.

Back in the main hall Adriena goes very still and listens for any odd noises, the creepy feeling inside her growing stronger, but doesn't see or hear anything of note. Then, just to confirm her suspicions, she examines the orc bodies again. She notes that they are burnt only on the front, the back is not burnt at all.

Seeing Adriena leave, Gregory moves over to the window to try and figure out how to open the shutters in order to get a look outside. As he gets to the window he bumps into something. Quickly he reaches for his sword when Garth's voice is heard, "Its just me, don't hurt me." Seconds later there is a crunching sound and the shutters fly open as Garth briefly appears with a dagger pulling it away from the now open, broken shutters before disappearing again.

Following Adriena's lead, Aan decides to skip opening the cover to the well. He figures that the group can always come back to it. Aan suggests, "I'm for going and trying the door on the right. Shall we?" Without waiting for a reply Aan heads out of the room and moves over to the other closed door.

Outside it is now quite dark. Neither Garth nor Gregory can make out much, even with their infravision, other than there is 20ft clearing around the building and then trees.

Malis leaves the room, disinterested in the well to join Aanparon and Adriena. Ganthanor still stands guard by the door.

Aan with Malis and Adriena watching begins to search the other door for traps. Looking at the lock and tinkering with it for a moment, he comes to the conclusion that the door is neither locked nor trapped.
