Upstairs

Turn Twelve: Upstairs

Ganthanor moves over to the second door and waits for Aan to finish his search. While waiting he notices Adriena's strange behavior. "What is it Adriena? You seem apprehensive. Something bothering you?" Ganthanor leans over to Aan and whispers, "Do you think we have another invisible 'creature' in here?" Ganthanor stands straight again and moves to the doorway without a door. Ganthanor pulls his sword, "I think we might have an invisible guest folks. Someone guard the door to the stairway. I maybe totally off base but it's better to be safe than sorry."

Adriena glides over to Ganthanor and places a gentle hand on the hilt of his drawn sword, "Don't get too jittery. I'm not sensing any strange magical auras or creatures. Concluding that the well killed those orcs made me realize again that we are orcs and are subject to any attack aimed at them. I thought just being an orc was bad enough, but..... Anyway, I do feel there is some mystery here in this place. Whether it is relevant to our mission or not, who can say? We won't know without searching, but we must be moving on before daylight comes. How long has it been since nightfall? Come Ganthanor, let us rejoin our friends before they enter yon room without us."

Gregory pulls the shutters closed so no one comes along and notices them being open, he don't want anyone getting suspicious. He then goes out and joins the rest of the group by the door. Before Aan opens the door he draws his sword and dagger and moves up close to Aanparon.

Garth looks at the covered well with a dangerous sense of curiosity. He realizes that it would be impossible for him to open it by himself, frowning Garth wrings his hands, ever so disappointed. He then leaves the room follows the rest of the group to the door.

Once again, the group is together and Aanparon opens the door, moving quickly to the side allowing Ganthanor first access to the room. Ganthanor stands ready sword drawn to combat any further evils inside and is somewhat heartbroken to find that there is nothing to attack. Inside is a 10'x20' room. It appears to have been used as storage. There are several broken pots but everything has been cleared out, perhaps by looters.

There are only two avenues left in the building. The room kitty-corner to the "teleportation" room and the broken ladder in the "teleportation" room. The party has been in the building for less than an hour. From what the party figures, it is probably around 7 or 8 o'clock in the evening.

Adriena says, "Well, so much for finding anything of importance here. Do any of you wish to search it more thoroughly? If not, then let's go back to where we started this evening and try that ladder again."

She says to the men, "Remember, if you encounter someone up there, don't kill unless you have to. I will try to communicate with....it, but please understand - my skills are limited and I will only be able to understand what it is saying. I cannot be understood by it unless, of course, it knows the language I speak or we find some other means of communicating. Anyway, be careful."

Gregory says, "Why don't we check this room for secret doors, just so we make sure we don't miss anything." Aanparon and Ganthanor nod agreement and the three of them spend a few moments searching the walls, but do not find anything. With a shrug of their shoulders they move to follow the others to the teleportation room.

Adriena pauses momentarily in front of the closed door to the door that is kitty-corner to the teleportation room with Malis right behind her. Seeing that the door is shut, she continues on into the teleportation room.

Aanparon uses Gregory and Ganthanor again as "stepping stools" and climbs up, one foot on each of their shoulders. Due to the haste in which he had been in the last time that he had been on the ladder, there is only a small portion of the ladder left. Aanparon shows his great agility by moving his feet so that he is now using Gregory and Ganthanor's heads a "stepping stools". With this added height, Aanparon is able to reach the broken wooden ladder.

Aanparon pauses to check the trap door above him, but does not find anything out of the ordinary. Pushing the trap door open, Aanparon pulls himself into the room. The room on the second floor is the same dimensions as the room below it. On the west wall there are two windows (shuttered) and one window on the south wall (shuttered). The room appears to have been the master bedchambers. The only thing that remains in the room is that in the northwestern corner of the room there is a shattered and splintered bed frame. There are a few small holes in the east wall but no other exits from the room.

Aanparon holds the trap door in his hand and asks the group, "Throw up a torch. Lit please. Don't worry about me, if you can get it up here I can catch it." While waiting for the torch he keeps a wary eye out, especially on the holes in the east wall.

Malis says, "If some one will help me I would go up and help. Someone should be able to through me up to the ladder because I weigh very little." But no one responds to her and so she begins to sulk a little.

Adriena rummages around in her belly-pack and pulls out a leather wrap. She opens it's folds and removes a candle. She then says, "I have a candle, can one of you can light it and get it to Aan? Garth you could climb up there with it, couldn't you?"

Ganthanor stands on guard as the group works with Aanparon to search the upper room.

There is no reply, but suddenly the candle is whisked from Adriena's hand and seemingly floats in the air. Then the candle shoots upward in the air, followed by a tinderbox that appears next to it, through the trap door. Aanparon lights the candle and then places a dagger in the trap door to keep the door open and says to the orcs waiting below, "Don't anyone stand underneath here, if I need a quick exit the dagger and I will both be dropping rapidly."

The group quickly moves away from the opening in the ceiling as they wait to see what Aanparon finds.

Aanparon proceeds to search the room swiftly but as silently as he can. He doesn't find anything hidden in the refuse of the room. This room has been picked clean. From the holes he can see into the main hall where the party found the strange nest. Disgruntled that nothing was found, Aanparon calls down the hole, "There is nothing here. Lookout, I am coming down." Aanparon removes the dagger and then lowers himself off the edge of the trap door. Ganthanor and Gregory are able to help him reach the ground.
