The Party Camps

Turn Nineteen: The Party Camps

The smell of dinner, even orc fare, is a constant reminder of one of the flaws in Garth's plan . . . he has no food with him. Pondering this, he realizes much to his dismay that he will not be any use to the party if he succumbs to hunger or exhaustion.

Oh well, this wouldn't be his first sleepless night on an empty belly, and probably won't be the last

Still pained by Gregory's death, Garth plots revenge. Perhaps he should use this opportunity to sneak in and kill Red Tusk while he sleeps? "With my luck I'll just get myself killed", he says to himself. Red Tusk will pay, but not now.

Garth also knows that Haratia hasn't forgotten about him. With luck, he will figure that the invisible one ran off after the fight, or if he does know Garth is still around, he might just wait to see what I will do. In any event, Garth will be extremely vigilant tonight. He will continue to hide until the orcs move out, and after an acceptable amount of time will follow after them. If he is found out, he will fight until subdued, and his Alibi will be that he was separated from his unit during the scuffle and did not like the way Haratia or Red Tusk ran their outfit. He was waiting for another group to come by and he would join up with them. But hopefully the alibi wont be needed.

The day passes quickly as the camp sleeps. Every hour the Orc on guard moves over to a sleeping Orc and kicks him awake. Adriena, after getting some rest, climbs a tree and studies her spellbook.

Soon twilight approaches, more and more of the Orcs are waking up. Red Tusk talks briefly to one of the Orcs, the Orc then moves over and kicks all of the cooks awake, "Make breakfast, Red Tusk says we leave in less than two hours."

Haratai stretches and begins to pray, not very quietly, to his God.

Malis and Adriena watch Haratai pray, as do some other Orcs of the camp, and then they pray themselves, Adriena also talks softly with Malis asking her how she is but Malis doesn't reply.

Aanparon quickly and quietly explains to Ganthanor that they are supposed to cook "breakfast". The Orc that lost the fight to Gregory putters around the cook-fire as well but is more than happy to let Aan and Ganthanor do the work.

Garth schemes and plots.

The Camp quickly eats and breaks things down for transport. The cooking-gear as well as Red Tusk and Haratai ride in the wagons. All of the other Orcs walk. The captives, who were never fed, are pulled along side the wagons. Occasionally one of the humans slips and falls. After some well-placed kicks the human is left to be dragged by the other humans, (all of the humans are connected by a long chain).

The orchestra of Orcs head northward.

The activity of the camp signals the end of Garth's long wait. Taking careful note of where the other members of the party are, and where Haratia and Red Tusk are riding, Garth prepares to move out. He also watches intently on where the remains of breakfast are thrown.

After the troop moves out, Garth gives them long enough so that he can safely follow without being seen, then heads out after them. He pauses in the old camp to look for the remains of any breakfast that is edible, but not for long. He follows the wagon train far enough away that he is safe of not being spotted by Red Tusks scouts or look outs, and also far enough away that if they would stop suddenly, he wont just stumble into their view. However, Garth will occasionally hurry to catch a glimpse of them on the horizon, just so he doesn't get lost. He also keeps a close eye on the rest of the horizon, so that he doesn't happen upon any of the local "inhabitants".

Adriena walks along the carts, trying to avoid any offal from the lizards as well as the dirt and dust that are kicked up by the passing carrages. Red Tusk in the lead cart and Haratai is in the trail cart.

Ganthanor keeps walking oblivious to the people around him, keeping his eyes on the ground in front of him to make sure that no one tries to start up a conversation with him. Upon seeing Malis head towards the fallen human, Ganthanor sighs and loosens his sword in its scabbard.

Malis, who has been walking next to Adriena, sees the fallen human and begins to move towards him with compassion in her heart. The humans that are around the fallen man see Malis walking towards them and quickly drag the slave to his feet and help him walk. One of the slaves says in common, "He walks, he walks.. Don't kill him.."

Meanwhile, while peoples attention is focused on Malis Aanparon ducks out of the convoy. He slips behind a tree and lets the group pass him by, he then begins looking for Garth.
