Over the course of the next few days, hundreds of HonShar soldiers comb the mines to find the old Ca'ega gate. After three days of nail-biting nerviousness, wondering if the orcs were going to launch their attack, the gate was found.
The military with mage support from the War College lay a large ambush in wait for the impending attack. Magical as well as mundane traps are set up and entire units of soldiers post themselves in the surrounding tunnels.
Four days later the attack comes. The HonShar forces are jarred into alertness as the gate begins to glow with a soft errie light and let off a faint humming sound. Seconds later orcs come flowing through the gate. They get about 100 feet from the gate when the traps are set off. Magical explosions, caltrops, and arrows decimate entire lines of orcs. Rising from their hidden positions, mages chant mystical words and balls of fire in rapid sucession shoot forward from their hands, arcing above the mass of trapped and dying orcs, through the magical gate. Faint sounds of explosions and screams are heard through the gate as the onslaught of fireballs continue. After a few moments the fireballs stop and Lord General Stirling gives the signal to advance. Mage and soldier rush down the tunnel, quickly overrunning the shattered defenses of the suprised orc invasion force.
The HonSharian army quickly mops up the remaining orcs and continues through the gate. Through the gates, the humans see the damage the mages have already done. In the huge cavern preparation area over 3/4ths of the orc invasion force lie dead. Orc priests and mages lie dead along side the dead warriors. The human force aided by magical support quickly destroys the remaining standing orcs and continues their sweep.
Armed with the information gained by their recently returned scouts, the humans rapidly sieze control of the Orc Keep, blocking off entrances to prevent reinforcements and those attempting to escape, killing everything in their path. After several hours of fighting the Keep is entirely in human hands. There are small pockets of orc resistance but the humans just set a guard and leave these pockets alone.
The Ca'ega is recovered as well as the dead body of Lord Herpein, validating the scout's information. In an orderly fashion the humans return to the underground cavern setting fire to the levels of the Keep as they head downward. The humans carrying their wounded as well as loot and orc battle plans, and pass through the gate. The mages are the last through the gate, casting spells before hurriedly moving through the gate.
The delayed blast fireballs explode at the same time destroying the orc gate and shutting down the magic corridor. The noise and light disappear from the gate in the old mines of HonShar and a roar of success comes from the humans.
The next week is spent in celebration. Lord Stirling gives a short speech about how the orcs had taken a blow that would take generations to recover from. Awards and honors were bestowed upon those of merit from the human invasion and slowly life returned to normal.
The HonSharian army moved out into the countryside, cleansing the infestation of orcs from the areas around HonShar, allowing the people to return to their homes. Once again, the humans had beaten back the evil orcs. Mankind could breathe a bit easier.
