The Life

The Life

People come and go,
but armies are here to stay.
Just as you may know,
to keep Saddam away.

That is why I am here,
in the happy field.
Wishing for a cool beer,
all of my troubles healed.

But NO! Not in Alpha Company,
of the notorious 163rd.
Not for all the defense monies,
can you be deferred.

“Sarge, my arm’s broke; Sarge, my eye fell out,
I hear it all the time,
Dumb private think you have clout?
You’re not worth even a dime.”

“Back in my day none of it mattered,
arm shot off, or freezing cold.
Even if your body was in tatters,
you always did as you were told.”

Typical mindset in Alpha Company,
Mr. Darwin at his best.
Always looking for someone,
to put down like the rest.
