This rock, the rock of Rouche, which in French means the rock of pigeons, is located just off the shore of the capital Beirut. I used to pass by it everyday as I went to school. Isn't it pretty?

The cedars of Lebanon, which appear on the national flag as well as the currency, are well known throught history. Their wood was famous for its excellent quality, durability and beautiful fragrance, making Lebanon a major trading center around the world. But because of the heavy cutting of the trees, they are pretty rare nowadays, leading to many strict laws against harming them. The cedars of Lebanon are believed to be the only original cedars and the source of many other species of it world-wide. It is a pride to have them in Lebanon and yes, that white stuff is snow! cedars.jpg (14195 bytes)
