The Guild



The High Guild of Heliographers, better known as the Guild, is said to be one of the driving forces behind the Family victory of the Imperials so long ago. It was originally set up by a group of Alchemists and lens manufacturers in an attempt to create an information network that spans the continent for the promotion of a more structured society. The success has been partial as there are still many areas that do not have the benefit of a heliograph station.

Heliograph technology is based around a complicated lens and reflection set up designed to use the light of the sun to send encoded messages to other Heliograph stations within range. Current research projects that are carried out by Alchemists are trying to create a source of artificial light that can make the Heliograph stations effective at nights and when there is heavy cloud cover.

The Guild does not have any real preferences towards factions though they have a good relationship with the Gift Religion as they have often in the past helped to build stations all over Midgard. The Guild is the sworn enemy of the barbarians and has some regiments that are purely anti Barbarian in nature.

In recent history, it is rumoured that members of the Guild have sent explorers out over the Great Eastern Ocean with some success. This has lead to speculation of the possibility of intercontinental communication.

Entry Conditions


It is the requirement of the Guild that those who wish to enter into the High Guild of Heliographers possess the skill of Cryptography-1.


Factional Powers


It is necessary to possess the skill of Cryptograph-2 to progress past rank 15(3rd Lens Buffer) in the Guild faction. When a Guild member reaches rank 17(1st Lens Grinder) he gains teh ability of lens grinding which allows him to re align existing lenses.

Goals

  1. The spreading of Heliograph technology to the whole world.
  2. Having at least one heliograph station within 10 sectors of every city on the Midgard continent.
  3. The prevention of Barbarian forces destroying property of the Guild.
  4. The destruction of the source of the Barbarians.
