The darks abound by the thousands. OnlySigilknows all the answers, that is, maybe. Only the Lady knows for sure. Who's the Lady, eh, berk? To be quite honest to a clueless like yourself, no body knows for sure. Some say she is Sigil itself, others lay claim that she is a Baazetu, or a Tanar'ri. Perhaps yet she is a greater power. Or maybe just a figment of the planar magination. No one knows for sure. Not many, but some, have seen her floating down the streets of Sigil. Berks that look go barmy, the ones that don't, they survive. She'll put you in the dead-book for no reason, seeing as she doesn't seem to care about the going-ons in her city, as long as they don't pose a threat to her power. That may explain why she keeps all the powers out. She even controls the gateways, the portals to other planes.

The portals take a body to almost anywhere in the multiverse. In fact, a cutter can go anywhere, so long he knows which portal to take. Some of them are temporary, others permanent. If a leatherhead goes through a temporary one, he may be stranded in the Abyss for millions of years. That is, if he survives that long. The one sure thing about the portals is that one end is always in Sigil and the other is somewhere else. The portals are the single reason for one of the city's nicknames, the City of Doors.

The following information is also available in this area for bashers : the cant, the language of Planescape; and portals and their keys.
