Omfast comes in from the darkness outside and slams the door shut. He takes of
his thick coat and cap, hangs both on a peg, and takes a seat by the fire. He
mutters, "Oh why was I cursed with such a stubborn family..." He gnaws his teeth
and mutters some more.
Topaz sneaks in and shuts the door, looking around. "Well, I managed to sneak
out unnoticed..." She pulls up a chair and sits down at an empty table.
Sitting at the piano on the stage is a small hobbit. The well dressed, curly
haired figure sways back and forth from side to side. His hands move over the
keys with some strugle as he plays a common tune. Its not a first recognizable,
due in part mostly to his skill or lack there of with the piano. Then slowly, if
one listens they can figure out that its the song of the "Dancing Lillies", a
merry tune without words. The young hobbit that sits at the piano is in his
tweens so it appears. Nickham pays no heed to others in the tavern while he
focus on playing.
The music fills the room, the chatter dies down, perhaps because it is already
late, perhaps because the playing has gotten better. Suddenly Omfast stands, his
fist in his palm. "This will not do!" He turns on his heels and walks to the
bar. "Johnny, will you give me an ale please? I had a long discussion at home
and it made me thirsty." Johnny shrugs, pushes an ale over, and mutters, "Keep
your temper down, Omfast, or I'll throw you out again."
Hammo enters the room from the street.
Hammo has arrived.
Topaz looks over at Omfast from where she is sitting, and wonders what went on,
but decides not to ask about it. She starts drumming her fingers on the table
and humming along to the tune being played on the piano.
A broad smile breaks on Nickham's face as he starts to get the hang of this
particular piano, his playing improves, some. He keeps his eyes on the keys, as
the song bulids to a pleasant cresendo, growing louder for a moment, before
faltering, and drifting away in a tinkling of music like so many Lillies
floating away down the Brandywine. The song ends, and he claps lightly at
himself.
Flildobrand walks into the Green Dragon Inn, allowing the door to swing open
broadly. He smiles happily, calling out to the patrons, "Good evening, friends."
He smiles again and walks further into the room.
Flildobrand
This is a fairly short hobbit before you. He doesn't look as though he is over
2'8". This hobbit looks in his fourties, maybe older. His curly brown hair sits
atop a pale face. Staring at the world is a pair of bright brown eyes. Below
them is a small nose as well, which sometimes twitches a bit. He looks somewhat
pudgy, for this is a common hobbit in his habits and likings to food and drink.
He is wearing clothes that are in somewhat good condition. Of course, they have
sustained the normal wear and tear of life. His clothing consists of a bright
green, long-sleeved shirt, complete with yellow trimming. It has a small patch
near the left side of the abdomen, but it is hardly noticed with the subtle
positioning of the arms. Above the green shirt, this Hobbit wears a yellow
waistcoat, its colour very similar to the trimmings on the shirt. He wears a
pair of loose-fitting tan trousers on his legs, as well.
Omfast knocks his knuckles onto the bar while the others clap. "Nice playing,
stranger!" he says. "Will you play one more? I'm in a bad mood right now and
could use some cheering up. There'll be an ale for you at the end."
Topaz claps along with the others.
Topaz
A small young hobbit girl just into her tweens, with wavy reddish brown hair
tied back into a braid. Her bluish green eyes peek out from a tan face, and she
dresses more like a young hobbit man, wearing a bright blue short sleeved shirt
and a similarly-colored pair of pants. She is wearing a silver charm necklace
around her neck.
Nickham
This small jovial faced hobbit is like many others. He is three feet tall, and
full bodied. His round face, and curly brown hair are neat and trim. Bright blue
eyes looks out into the world thru a pair of wire rimmed spectacles. This thin
glasses are fixed to the end of his nose, even though he pushes them back up
constantly.
Dressed in a fine tweed suit, he is a dapper looking hobbit. The suit fits him
well, if not for the length of the sleeves being just a bit too long. His pocket
handkerchief blazes a bright yellow to match the brass button down his front.
His linen shirt underneath is a simple white, while his vest matches the light
green tweed of the suit. Like any proper hobbit he wears a belt with a brass
buckle, shaped like a beer barrel, to hold up his matching pants. The hair on
his feet is always curly, and well groomed.
Nickham swivels on the stool, looking around the room to see who it was that
called for another song. He smiles opening as he stands, with a polite bow he
replys, "Nickham Brandybuck, pleased to be of service. I shall do my best, and
my best is all shall be able to do. I hope you enjoy." Sitting again he tugs the
sleaves of his tweed coat back. Slowly he touches the keys, and begins to play.
The song is soft and sweet, gently floating on the air like a dozen butterflies
emering from the edge of the Woody End into the bright sun. The song is played
well enough, he is no master of the piano, but nor is his playing insulting to
listen too.
Flildobrand scans the headlines.
Omfast stares at the back wall while the Nickham Brandybuck plays another song.
The firelight reflects in his eyes and he sighs. Just as Johnny passes him
again, he orders two more ales. His old one is finished. Johnny nods, fills two
more and comes back again. He pushes them across the counter, slowly. Omfast
looks up and Johnny mutters, "Remember Omfast, keep your wits together." Omfast
nods, but his smile seems a bit artificial. He takes the two ales and walks up
to the piano. As the song finishes, he extends one of them towards the piano
player and says, "Will you join me? The crowd has grown, so perhaps... we... we
could join the young miss over there, what do you think?"
Flildobrand walks over to the bar and orders an ale. He smiles as Johnny goes
over to prepareit. When he is brought the mug of the ale, he reaches into his
pockets and produces the 5 coppers needed.
Nickham runs his fingers over the keys as the song ends, the butterflies
drifting off into the sunlight. "I would be delighted to join you sir." He looks
around room, "I'm not so comfrtable with the piano as to play infront of so
many, as it were, anyhow. I do not think I got your name sir?" The little hobbit
stands, taking the mug of ale in one hand and offering the other in a hand
shake, his coat sleaves returning to their potisions halfway up his thumbs.
Topaz looks at the clock. "Oh, look at the time! I'm really gonna get it this
time..." She stands up and runs out of the tavern.
Flildobrand approaches the two shaking hands. He nods, tipping his mug ever so
slightly, "Hello gentlehobbits. Mind if I join you tonight as well?" He extends
his other hand towards them politely after brushing off his waistcoat for little
reason.
Omfast grins wryly. "Sure, join us. I need company tonight. Omfast Cotton is the
name. At your service." He accepts Nickham's hand and shakes it. "Follow me."
With the wry grin still on his lips and the other ale in his hand, he steers
towards the table where Topaz is sitting all by herself. "Are there two chairs
available, young miss?" Instead of replying, however, she gets up and looks the
other way, "Oh, take it, take it. I was just about to go anyway." She grabs her
coat and out she goes. Surprised, Omfast looks at Nickham and says, "Well, what
a show! Didn't know I was that ugly." He laughs, a bit harshly.
Nickham shakes hands with Omfast, and before he can follow to the table he
greets Flildobrand. "Please join us." he shakes hands with the hobbit, and
motions towards the table where Topaz has just left. "It seems we have an extra
chair, good fortune for you..." he smiles at Flildobrand, "...I'm sorry what was
your name? I'm Nickham Brandybuck, please to meet you, I'm sure."
Another sturdy little hobbit cheerfully makes his way into the Green Dragon.
There's a wide grin on Hammo's face as he makes his way over to Johnny's bar.
Just as he reaches the bar and clambers into a stool, the hobbit takes his hands
from his belt and rests them on the bartop, drumming his fingers idly as he
tries to decide what to order.
Johnny shows Hammo a menu.
Flildobrand follows the two, holding his mug carefully. "Ah, I am Flildobrand
Took, a pleasure to meet you, sir, as well." He looks around once more, as he
hardly comes into Hobbiton and does not know this Inn as well as another.
Flildobrand nods again and continues walking.
Omfast takes a seat, waits for the other two, and when they're all comfortable,
he raises his mug, "To family life!"
Flildobrand tips his mug and smiles. Looking over to Omfast he tilts his head,
"You're..the gardener over at the Great Smials, correct?" He nods to himself, as
he is fairly sure. "I am Flildobrand Took, a pleasure to meet you, I'm sure."
After some precious moments of deliberation, Hammo finally decides, and mutters
something across the bar to Johnny. Still not too interested in what's going on
around him, he continues to drum one hand idly while the other keeps his head
off the bar.
Omfast drinks down a significant portion of his ale before putting it down
again. He wipes his mouth and grins, "Heh, you know about that? I just got the
job last week! I actually came here to tell my father about it, but he wouldn't
have anything. Threw me out again. Oh well." He takes a nother long sip.
"Flildobrand, is it? I never heard your name before. But I haven't been in
Tuckland for too long. What do you do down there?"
"To family life." Nickham toasts as well. He take a nice long pull from his mug,
"Ahhh, this is as good as they say it is, even if I say so myself." He chuckles
and takes another drink. He again pull up his sleaves as they get in his way,
but other wise is quite for a bit.
Flildobrand takes a decent gulp of his ale and then rests it on the table. He
shrugs a little, grinning, "I don't do much of anything. I hope to open a
pipeweed shoppe in Tuckborough, as there aren't many." He nods once more, this
time to Nickham, "It is good, grand even."
Nickham sips his ale, enjoying it obviously, if the smile on his face is any
sign. He listens to the others talking, not wishing to interupt or go butting in
where he shouldn't be, not yet atleast. He is content to listen and to be
patient for an opening that intrests him.
Omfast laughs at Flildobrand, "Good for you! Now all we need to know is what Mr.
Brandybuck here does for a living! What about it? Visiting some family." He
grins at Nickham, his eyes a bit unsteady.
Flildobrand turns toward Nickham, sipping his ale once more.
Nickham whipes his lips (with is sleave of all things!) of the ale as after
setting his mug down. "Well, I'm not here visiting anyone, but visiting everyone
at once, if you get my meaning?" He smiles, cheaks flushed with the ale.
Flildobrand hmms, sipping his own, "I do, somewhat." He grins, "I was actually
in Hobbiton to purchase some pouches from the nearby pipeweed cart but it seems
to have gone.." He hrms, "Ooh well."
Omfast looks at Nickham, his eyes totally blank. Suddenly, he throws his head
back and laughs. Then he drains his mug. "Johnny... Johnny... I want another
one... other one. Hey John-ny. Whe-where are you now?" From behind the counter,
Johnny comes forth, eyes blazing. He looks at the other two hobbits at the
table, then back at Omfast. "Take your time, Om. Relax." He puts a heavy hand on
Omfast's shoulder. Omfast sits up straight again. Johnny leaves. Omfast looks
into his empty mug.
Nickham's eyes light up at the mention pipeweed, "Are there any dealers in the
area? I seem to have run out of pipeweed myself." he sips his mug, then watches
the exchange between Omfast and the bartender.
Flildobrand shakes his head, "I just came in to buy some pouches..And perhaps a
few barrels, but the cart that was once here..isn't." He frowns a bit, sipping
his ale.
Nickham nods to Flildobrand, "I shall have to find a dealer than on my own,
perhaps we can look together in the morning. I'm staying the night here, but not
before I fill up the corners a bit." He turns in his chair and motions to the
bartender, "A bit of sausage, cheese, and a seedcake please, if you don't mind,
thank you very much." The bartender nods his reply, and goes about the order.
Magifold scans the headlines.
Omfast seems quite unsteady by now. He looks at Nickham and Flildobrand with
hazy eyes. While the two are talking he mutters something about his father and
how he was wrong, and how he himself didn't do anything wrong, and how he got a
job, and everything was alright, and then it gets all garbled and he talks about
that other young miss he met, and roses, too. Finally, he dozes off, face down
on the table.
