THE SECRET OF MONKEY ISLAND
SOLUTION

EPISODE ONE : THE THREE TRIALS

	Walk right and go into the scumm bar. Walk right to kitchen door and wait until the cook comes out. When the cook goes off the screen to the left, go through the door into the kitchen. Pick up the pot from under the table and the meat on the table. Walk outside and step on the end of the pier (there is a loose plank) to catapult the bird into the air. When it flies away pick up the fish. Then go out of the bar and walk left up cliff to lookout post. Walk to path. Go to clearing on map (red splodge) and walk into the tent. 
	Interrupt the two arguing and say that you'll do the trick. Say 'of course I have a helmet' and then give them the pot you picked up in the kitchen. After the stunt, take the money and go back to the village.
	Walk back past the scumm bar and up the road through the arch. Don't bother talking to anybody but go in the first door on your right. Pick up the chicken and go back out. Walk through the arch with the clock and go into the first building on the right. Pick up the sword and shovel. Pay for them and then ask the shopkeeper who you can test the sword out on. He will go and look for the sword master. Follow him to the sword master's house. After she tells him to get lost, go back to the path and to the bridge. Give the fish to the troll and then go to the house. Knock on the door and persuade the pirate to train you. You will need to be very determined. Get through the training and go back to the fork. Walk through either path and then pick up a leaf from the yellow plant. Use the leaf on the meat. Follow these directions:
		Left, up right, left, up, left, up, up, right, left, up, right.
	You should see a big cross on the floor. Use the shovel on it. Then go back to the map. You will need to stand around for a while and fight lots of pirates to learn insults. To build up a satisfactory repertoire of insults you'll need to do this for at least 1/2 an hour or 45 mins. Tip: speed up the text by pressing +.
	When you think you are good enough, go to the sword master's (just click on it on the map) and challenge her to a fight. The retorts you should use are in a different file. Obtain it by sending mail to ed@bluestar.softnet.co.uk . 
	After defeating the sword master, go back to the village. Go through the arch with the clock and also the next one to get to the governor's mansion. Give the meat with the condiment to the dogs. Go into the mansion and pick up the vase. Walk through the door on the left. Let Guybrush get decked and then go back to the village and talk to the guy in the prison. Go to the shop and ask for some breath mints. Give them to the prisoner. Give the gopher repellent to him and then 'use' the cake that he gives you. You will obtain a file. Go back to the mansion and jump through the hole in the wall. When you have the idol, make excuses to the sheriff and the governor. Try to walk out the front door and old shiny top will chuck you in the sea. Pick up the idol and climb up the ladder onto the dock just in time to see LeChuck sail off with the governor. 
	Say to the lookout that you will get a crew together and rescue her. First go to the sword master's and tell her about it. Go to the shore (top right on map) and use the chicken on the cable. Go into the house and tell cannonball-head about the governor. When he asks you to prove your bravery, open the little door and do something to the 'beast' inside. You'll need to use the cable to get back.
The other member of your crew is the prisoner in jail. To release him, pick up all the mugs in the bar and then go into the kitchen. Fill up the mug with grog and set out towards the jail. When you reach the guy with the parrot, transfer the grog into a new mug. Do this again outside the jail. Go inside and throw the grog at the lock. 
Of course, you'll need a boat. Go to Stan's Used Ship Emporium (labelled as 'lights' on map). Tell Stan that you were hoping to get one on credit. Get out of there and go back to the shop. SAVE YOUR GAME HERE. Ask the shopkeeper for credit, say 'Of course I have a job' then NOTE THE COMBINATION FOR THE SAFE. You only get one go at this : if you don't do it right, re-load it and do it again. When he gets the note, tell him you're between jobs and then tell him to go talk to the sword master again. When he's gone, open the safe using the technique you remembered. Note: Pull = Anti-clockwise, Push = Clockwise.
Go back to Stan's and look at the cheap one again, say you got credit. Ask him how much it is, you have got to half this figure so he will accept your note of 5000. Make him lower the price by saying you don't want any extras. Then make him an offer and walk away. When he finally gives in and sells you the boat for 5000, go back to the dock and meet your crew.
 
EPISODE TWO : 

Pick up the ink and quill pen from the table in the main room on deck. Open the drawer and pick up the book. Go on to deck and go up the rope ladder. Take the flag and go down below deck. Go through the door and pick up the pot and cereal from the shelf, then open the cereal, look at the prize. Then go back to the cabin and use the prize key in the cupboard and read the recipe. Go into the hatch and down again into the hold. Pick up rope. Open chest and nab the wine. Take some gunpowder from the kegs. 
Go back to the kitchen and put cereal, wine, gunpowder, flag, ink, mints and chicken into the pot.
When Guybrush awakens, set alight to the logbook in the fire. Go and get some more gunpowder. Put the gunpowder in the cannon nozzle on deck, use the string as the fuse, light it and use the pot as a helmet.

EPISODE THREE : UNDER MONKEY ISLAND

Pick up the banana. Go into the jungle. Walk left and go to fort. Pick up spy glass and rope. Push the cannon and pick up the powder and ball. Walk right and go to fork in river. Pick up the note and rock. Use gunpowder with dam. Use rock with spy glass to cause spark and blow up the dam. Go to pond. Pick up rope. Go back to river fork. Walk to footholds. Pull 'primitive art' twice and go up again. Push the rock. Go to 'crack' and use the pieces of rope to climb down to get the oars. Go down to beach and pick up bananas. Use the boat.
Row right, around the peninsula and to the next beach (the one near the village). Go to village. Walk left and pick up bananas. Walk right. When accosted by the cannibals, say 'Oh, go ahead and eat me. See if I care.' Pick up skull in hut and pick up loose floor board. Use the hole to escape. Go back to boat and row back to beach with tree. Go to see the monkey (grey blob). Give him all the bananas, and then go to the giant monkey head. The monkey should follow you. If you pull the nose on the left-hand totem pole (near the fence) and then walk away from it, the monkey will mimic you and hold the gate open for you. Go into the monkey grounds. Pick up the 'wimpy little idol' and take it back to the cannibals and give it to them to persuade them not to eat you. You can then go into the hut you were imprisoned in before and take the banana picker. Walk right and give the picker to Herman. He will give you the key to the monkey head. Go out of the village, then come back in. Talk to the cannibals. You will find out that the governor is beneath Monkey Island, and you can get there through the monkey head. The magical root used to make the anti-ghost potion is on LeChuck's ship. To get it, you need the navigator head to show you the way, but they won't give it to you. Give them the leaflet that Stan gave you. It is entitled 'How to get ahead in navigating'. The cannibals will think it contains instructions about how to obtain a new navigator head so they will give you theirs. Go back to the monkey head an use the key in the monkey ear. Once inside, use the navigator head to show you which way to go. When you got to the ghost ship, talk to the head. Get the necklace off him and put it on. Go onto the ghost ship. Go to hatch. Walk to passage. Pick up ghost feather. Go back and tickle the sleeping ghost pirate with the feather. Pick up the grog. Go on deck. Walk left. Go through door. Use compass with key. Go below-decks again and use this key to open the hatch near the chickens. Go down and put the grog in the dish. The rat will drink it and pass out. Pick up some grease. Go back to the deck and use grease on door. Go inside and take the ghost tools. Use them on the glowing crate in the room with the chickens. Grab the root. Go back to the cannibal village and give them the root.
When you get back to the ship, it will have gone. The ghost will tell you LeChuck has taken the governor to Melee Island to marry her.

EPISODE FOUR : GUYBRUSH KICKS BUTT

	I don't think you need a step-by-step guide to completing this episode. You just need to remember that you pick up the root beer that comes out of the grog machine (when you land in it) and use it to make LeChuck into pretty fireworks.
