I have a nice picture, on my website,
of what has been supposed to be the "deathmask" of king Teti, found in his
mortuary temple.
I believe that this fine face corresponds perfectly to the obsidian head of
an unknown king of which you may find a picture below. I would tend to think
the head is somewhere in Russia, although I'm not sure. Beautiful work, isn't
it? Look at the cheekbones, eyes, nose -- as compared to the mask. Exactly right.
Only the mouth of the mask is probably distorted in death, and the features of
the head below look a great deal sterner than those of the mask. Yet they are
the same features, IMO, nevertheless.
If anyone on the list has other photos of mask and head, I would appreciate a look.
