What is Lamer Mail?
Stupid email I get from lamers.
Why put it up on your page?
Because I get such a good laugh at it I think everyone else should as well.
Hello,
I am one of the designers that came up with the idea of using Westwood's idea, make the map the controller.
And?....
It works in the same way as a rules.ini file, and infact it is with just a/an mpr extension. I would appreciate if you would post this to people, because you are making out like it is something new...
Actually this is quite old. I'm not saying its anything new. That map has been on my website for months. I emailed the RAM webmaster about NewRA. Instead he emailed me back about the hjk Gold Map. Don't know why he put it in the executable files form since its just a map, but hey, its his webpage now. He can do whatever he wants.
If people want to distribute there rules.ini file, then tell them to open up their ????.MPR in edit or notepad. Then make their rules.ini modifications there. You might try telling them to D\L Red Alch. Pro.
Does that sound like an advertisement for Red Alch. Pro? Hmmm.... :) I won't tell them anything. Most people know about it. The problem is is that it is a sure fire way to cheat in RA games. If you were really from Westwood Studios, you would... 1) not give a dahm. 2) not want to get such information out since it could lead to massive cheating. 3) not give a dahm.
What-ever you decide to do is up to you, but I do have special rights to what you are taking credits for. If you don't change it immediately, I will have my lawyer get in contact with you... Westwood Map Editor:
He has 'special rights'??? I'm not taking credit for anything, except that I made the map itself and put in the rules.ini 'tags' that gives the maps its unique characteristics. Have your lawyer contact me. I'd love to talk to him. Maybe he and my laywer can do lunch sometime! :)
All files with the extension MPR, are copyrighted by Westwood Studios. Any illegal obtaining or violations to the license agreement of C&C Red Alert will be punished. All credit for any MPR file is striclty the right of Westwood Studios. You may not distribute the maps, unless they were made with the Map Editor. If they were handmade or made with an external editor, you must give credit to Westwood Studios.
-John Smith Westwood Studios 1997
What you're saying is: if I used your typewriter to write a book and the book goes huge and gets millions, I should give you all the credit since you made the typewriter. Actually I can distribute whatever I want. Westwood Studios doesn't give a care, and neither does anyone else besides you. And what will Westwood do to stop me? (Actually, I wouldn't say that to Westwood Studios. But I am and are saying to pathetic individuals that are trying to 'scare' me into giving them a 'made up' letter as if it did come from Westwood Studios.) Here are the reasons why this letter is an obvious fake: 1)Westwood wouldn't give a dahm (already covered this point) 2)I doubt anyone is named John Smith at Westwood Studios. Could be, but I doubt it. 3)If Westwood DID give a care they surely wouldn't care at all about a silly map. Instead, they'd care about NewRA and probably get mad about that. 4)The source of this email came from an account in Geocities. Why would someone from Westwood get an account on Geocities? Unless they're using the same type of crack that the ore truck drivers use, Westwood would send me email from THEIR email account.
So overall you seem to be a pathetic individual trying to 'scare' me. You probably spent all day (which is possible since you're out of Junior High for the Summer) writing the letter. I don't know about others, but I just laugh at such mail. Oh no... Westwood Studios is after me because I inserted a rules.ini inside a map file! The world will end because of what I did! :) Don't you have anything else BETTER to do?
Want to give this guy your opinion? Email the 'Designer of Red Alert'. :)
Although when I reply it will be sent to support@westwood.com look at the info below. It still says the markac@oocities.com so I'm still not convinced this came from Westwood Studios......

Sir,
I don't think you know what you are dealing with! I am not trying to be and ass, but you can get in very big trouble. And for your information, oocities.com is my personal address. I work for Westwood, and one of my duties to Westwood is to look around for problems and report them. And your attitude is making me consider this. I just wanted to let you know that MPR files are Copyrighted by Westwood, and we do give a damn about how people use them. Why do you think we gave you a map editor, and not a scenerio builder? We don't like the idea of the players making a better game, and getting the money for something that we spent a lot of hard time designing. Don't reply to this message, if you have a smart remark. I will have to report your attitude, and the material you have on your website...but I won't if you reply with a positive message.
AD:
I wasn't advertising for Red Alch. Pro. I suppose you say I am advertising for Microsoft for suggesting notepad or MS-EDITOR. Hmm, what I am doing is telling you what the legal matters are for MPR files. Wether you or your friend are making the maps and taking credit for the NEW CODE...!!! You have it on your web site. You need to change the descriptions for the ??? Gold, and what-ever other descriptions that say this new CODE... Just say something like, "This is a map with the RULES.INI file inside the map file itself. Actually, the MPR or map files, they are RULES.INI files with a/an MPR extension.
Difference between INI & MPR:
The INI files can be changed and distributed at will, but the MPR files are (c) Copyrighted to Westwood Studios. That is what I am trying to say. There are legal issues. Just do what I said, and we will all get along. I am not trying to get on your case, I am in the process of informing numerous web authors about the matter. I am just doing my duty to my company, Westwood Studios.
-John Smith Westwood
I get lots of mail everyday. So you must understand why I wouldn't believe Westwood Studios would ever email me. And people could be faking it. John Smith? That would be great name to fake by. Because both John and Smith are the most common names in America. If Westwood did email me, they would be talking to me about NewRA, not about a map. So what you're saying is anything with a .mpr extension is copyrighted by Westwood. So all the custom made campaigns and missions are to be copyrighted by Westwood as well, right? The big question I keep on wondering is 'Why would Westwood care?' We are .... 1)Not 'hurting' the Westwood product 2)We are actually endorsing the Westwood product with the maps and campaigns 3)Westwood has lots of other things to do. Why would they care about who gets credit about a type of map? Can he specify what exactly these legal 'problems' are? I doubt he could.
I searched for John Smith's member name in Geocities. And I found his webpage. Go to http://www.oocities.org/SiliconValley/Pines/1762/ There is no way a designer of Westwood would want to put warez on a website. So this guy is a definite fake.
Below is what I emailed to John Smith.
John Smith,
Keep in mind that this is 'positive' email. I have no proof that you're from Westwood. Sure you could twist your email address around so it'd LOOK like you're from Westwood, but its obvious you're not. As so you know my hjk gold edition map has an entire page devoted to it on my download page. And on that page I explain the rules.ini inside the map and everything else. So I'm not breaking any 'legal stuff' of Westwood. I will have to email Geocities if you don't quit using their email account to 'pretend' of being someone else. Geocities doesn't like it when people use there services for that... Please don't send another letter pretending you're John Smith. I've discovered the truth about you. Maybe you can have the Warez site you've wanted once you find another server besides Geocities. I hope you'll get done with your website soon at http://www.oocities.org/SiliconValley/Pines/1762/ I put a link to it from my page and we all want to see what you have to offer to the RA Gaming Community. :)

Hey, I found another culprit in on the SPAM plot. My own brother. He is going to get clobbered tonight! Please reply with any comments, you have a right to cuss the living daylights out of me. I should never leave my BOIS PASSWORD off.
Hey that was good tracking of my friends. If I was you, I would have probably taken the message to be authentic. Oh, well, REPLY!
John Smith (Wannabe Westwood Designer)
Sly.... You see, if I emailed 'John Smith' and cussed him out, he would send the email to Geocities. Geocities would see how I cussed him out and then they would delete my page, no warning or questions asked... In fact, probably if I replied to him again, I could get accused of 'harrassing another Geocities member'. So I'm not going to reply to him at all. But if you are one of the smart people who aren't on Geocities, feel free to email 'John Smith' here. Remember, he gives you full rights to cuss him out! :)
