The Drifting World is a peculiarity in a peculiar multiverse. It has
no stable connection to any other universe, getting closer to or farther
away from other universes unpredictably, drifting. However, the inhabitants
of the Drifting World have concerns of their own.
The Drifting World (pictured above) is a deeply magical world, but deeply
troubled. The elves, for millenia the keepers and givers of wisdom, are
deeply divided after the collapse of the empire that they had imposed on
the other races. Humanity's own empire is likewise long-dead, and now feuding
city-states vie to recapture its past glory. Dwarves, grown distrustful
of other races, fight their own battles, shutting themselves off from the
world. Savage orcs, long bottled into their native deserts, have grown more
cautious and threaten to expand. The lost and broken magics of ten thousand
years are scattered across the face of the world. Above all of this, many
believe that the end of the world as it is known is at hand.
As with any other role-playing campaign world, the Drifting World is a work
in progress. It started as an attempt to construct a fantasy world with
all the elements of a "traditional" high fantasy campaign while
simultaneously building some realistic political and cultural depth. Feel

Those curious about the Drifting World would do well to get a copy of the map
(for Mac users with access to color printing, e-mail
me for a very nice 1+ meg Canvas 3.5 version). There is also a larger
version of the above picture, a view from the southwest at noon from
between the first and second epicycles.
The buttons to the side will take you to files on the history, culture,
and cosmology of the Drifting World.
Big thanks to the folks at GeoCities
for providing this space.
